CEPT University is a private university in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It began in 1962 as the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology. The Government of Gujarat granted it university status in 2005, and the University Grants Commission recognised it in 2007. CEPT also conducts more than 20 professional programmes lasting 3 to 12 months. Their subjects include heritage conservation, urban governance, urban infrastructure finance and green building technology. These separately priced courses are intended for working professionals.

CEPT University Admission Process

Selection varies by course. Undergraduate applicants may need NATA, JEE Main, GUJCET or CEPT's design assessment, while postgraduate applicants generally use a relevant GATE score.

  1. Choose a programme and confirm its academic eligibility requirements.
  2. Take the entrance examination or assessment accepted for that programme.
  3. Submit the required academic records, examination score and any portfolio, statement of purpose or research proposal requested by CEPT.
  4. CEPT prepares the merit order using the applicable examination or assessment score.
  5. Shortlisted applicants complete document verification and accept the allotted seat.

B.Arch and Bachelor of Urban Design

B.Arch has 90 seats, while the Bachelor of Urban Design has 40 seats. Applicants need at least 50 per cent in 10+2 and a valid NATA score. CEPT ranks eligible applicants by score before document checking and seat acceptance. Every undergraduate student must complete the Common Foundation Program in the first year, irrespective of the chosen course.

B.Des Honours

Students from any 10+2 stream may apply for B.Des Honours. CEPT conducts a design aptitude test and reviews each applicant's portfolio. The evaluation considers creative and spatial thinking along with academic performance.

B.Tech Civil Engineering

For B.Tech Civil Engineering, applicants must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2 and obtained at least 50 per cent. Merit is decided using a normalised JEE Main or GUJCET score.

PG Programmes

Applicants to M.Arch, M.Tech and the master's programmes in urban disciplines need a relevant undergraduate degree with at least 55 per cent marks. Depending on the course, CEPT accepts GATE papers in Architecture and Planning (AR), Civil Engineering (CE) or Electrical Engineering (EE). Certain programmes also ask for a design portfolio or statement of purpose.

CEPT University Campus and Infrastructure

The Kasturbhai Lalbhai Campus stands in Navrangpura, central Ahmedabad, within walking distance of the Ahmedabad Museum and Gujarat Vidyapith complex. Spread across 12 to 16 acres, it contains buildings designed by Pritzker Prize laureate Balkrishna Doshi and collaborators from his practice. The campus architecture itself supports the study of contemporary Indian design.
