Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad / IIMA) is a public business school in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, set up in 1961. It is an Institute of National Importance under an Act of Parliament and receives full funding from the Ministry of Education, Government of India. IIMA also has AACSB accreditation, which is given by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

IIM Ahmedabad is best known for management education, case-based learning, executive programmes, research, and strong placement outcomes. In the NIRF Management Rankings 2025, it is ranked 1st in India. IIMA has held this rank every year since 2020.

The institute is located in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Its heritage campus was designed by Louis Kahn, and the red-brick academic buildings are among India's most recognised campus structures.

The full fee for the 2-year PGPM is INR 27.50 lakhs, including tuition, accommodation, and mess charges. The fee for PGPX is INR 34.50 lakhs. During the 2025 placement season, the highest domestic offer reached INR 1.10 CPA, the median salary was INR 34.53 LPA, and the batch recorded full placements. Consulting, BFSI, and General Management were the top sectors.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Dates 2027

Admission to the PGP 2027-29 batch is linked to CAT 2026. The registration window is currently open, and IIMA's AWT and PI rounds are expected in the first quarter of 2027. The PGP 2026-28 batch has already joined and classes have started.

IIM Ahmedabad Courses and Fees

IIMA mainly offers management programmes instead of a wide set of general university degrees. PGPM has the largest intake and is the main programme of the institute. The PGPM fee includes tuition, accommodation, and mess charges for the full 2-year course, so students do not pay a separate hostel fee.

For PGPM, tuition accounts for INR 20.10 lakhs of the total INR 27.50 lakhs fee. Accommodation and mess charges make up the remaining amount. PGPX students pay an extra INR 1.60 to 1.80 lakhs per year for campus accommodation. Blended programmes are designed so that students can keep working while studying. PhD scholars get a government fellowship stipend for the full programme period.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Process

IIMA admission is highly competitive. For PGPM, the final selection formula gives 50% weight to PI, 10% to AWT, 25% to CAT, and 15% to Academic Rating. The institute does not offer management quota seats or direct admission.

PGPM Admission

For the PGPM 2027-29 batch, IIMA will use CAT 2026 scores. For the 2026-28 batch, General and EWS candidates needed a minimum CAT percentile of 95 overall and 85 in each section. Reserved category candidates get relaxed percentile requirements as per IIM rules.

• Applicants need a bachelor's degree from a recognised university with at least 50% marks. SC, ST, and PwD candidates need 45% marks.
• Students in the final year of graduation can apply and may receive provisional admission.
• Non-male candidates get 3 bonus points in the Application Rating, listed as Rating E, for gender diversity.
• Graduation marks are adjusted through six Academic Categories, from AC-1 to AC-6. Engineering is AC-4, Commerce/Management is AC-3, and Medicine is AC-1.
• IIMA usually releases the AWT and PI shortlist in the second week of January after CAT results.

PGPX Admission

PGPX is IIMA's 1-year executive MBA. Applicants must have a valid GMAT or GRE score, as CAT is not used for this programme. They also need at least 7 years of full-time work experience after graduation. The PI takes place at the IIMA campus. PGP-FABM Admission

PGP-FABM is a separate 2-year programme with its own intake. It follows the same CAT-based AWT and PI process as PGPM. Candidates from agriculture, veterinary science, food technology, or allied sciences get additional preference. For candidates with agriculture backgrounds, the cutoffs are slightly lower than PGPM.

IIM Ahmedabad Placements

The PGPM 2025 placement season at IIM Ahmedabad ended with 100% placements. A total of 178 companies made 261 offers. The highest domestic offer was INR 1.10 CPA, while the median salary stood at INR 34.53 LPA and the mean salary was INR 35.22 LPA. Consulting attracted the highest demand, followed by BFSI and General Management.

IIMA tracks PGPX placement results for the 2024-25 batch separately. Its alumni work in leadership roles across McKinsey, BCG, Goldman Sachs, Hindustan Unilever, and large family-owned conglomerates. The IIMA brand is also recognised outside India, and some PGPM graduates receive international offers each year.

IIM Ahmedabad Rankings

IIM Ahmedabad is ranked among the strongest business schools in India. It has stayed at rank 1 in NIRF Management since 2020. Its PGPX and executive programmes also appear in global ranking lists.

IIMA does not take part in QS or THE World University Rankings. The FT Global MBA ranking is for the 1-year PGPX programme, not the 2-year PGPM. The FT Executive Education Open ranking is linked to IIMA's non-degree executive programmes.

IIM Ahmedabad Scholarships

IIMA supports PGPM students through need-based financial aid, scholarships, and loan support. Since admission itself is highly selective, the institute does not offer a merit scholarship for admitted students.

• IIMA Need-Based Financial Aid: PGPM students from families below a fixed annual income limit can receive fee waivers or subsidised education loans at preferential interest rates through IIMA's scheduled bank tie-ups.
• SC/ST Fee Concession: SC and ST students admitted to PGPM get fee concessions as per Ministry of Education rules for centrally funded Institutes of National Importance.
• Vivek Paranjape Scholarship: This scholarship is for female students with financial need and leadership potential. It is named after an IIMA alumnus. Students should contact IIMA Student Services for current cycle eligibility.
• PhD Fellowship: All PhD scholars get a monthly fellowship stipend and full fee waiver for the programme duration. The funding comes from the Ministry of Education.
• Education Loan: IIMA has tie-ups with national banks for PGPM education loans at concessional rates. Students can use these loans to pay the INR 27.50 lakhs programme fee.

IIM Ahmedabad Campus and Infrastructure

IIM Ahmedabad is based in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. American architect Louis Kahn designed the campus, which was built between 1963 and 1974. Its original red-brick buildings are treated as a heritage landmark and are among the most photographed academic buildings in India.

The campus is fully residential. PGPM students stay in individual rooms on campus, and the accommodation cost is already part of the INR 27.50 lakhs total PGPM fee. Facilities include a central library, computing centre, sports facilities, medical centre, and student activity centre. The IIMA library has one of India's largest collections of management case studies.

Newer campus development has added modern classrooms, student dorms, and housing for faculty members. The campus is close to Vastrapur Lake and the Bodakdev commercial district, with access to Ahmedabad International Airport and important business areas.

IIM Ahmedabad vs IIM Bangalore vs IIM Calcutta

IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta are together called the "IIM-ABC" tier. They are the three oldest and most globally recognised IIMs. Students scoring above 99 percentile in CAT often consider all three. The final choice usually depends on sector interest, alumni network, and location, because academic quality is considered comparable across the three institutes.

IIMA has the strongest NIRF position and a major consulting placement base. IIMB gains from Bengaluru's tech and start-up environment. IIMC has been known for BFSI and operations roles. Median PGP salaries at all three institutes are similar, and students who apply to all three go through separate final admission decisions at each institute.
