IIM Ahmedabad Admission Process 2027

IIM Ahmedabad Admission 2027 is handled program-wise. Each course has its own form, entrance test, eligibility rules, shortlisting method and final selection rounds.

For the two-year MBA (PGP) and MBA-FABM, admission is through CAT. PGPX and other programs use their own entrance score requirements and admission calendars. Selection may include entrance scores, past academics, work experience and program-specific factors.

• IIMA does not have any domicile or state quota for admission.
• Reservation by category is followed as per Government of India rules:
  • 27% NC-OBC, 15% SC, 7.5% ST, 5% PwD and up to 10% EWS.
• Online or take-home GMAT/GRE scores are not accepted for any IIMA program.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Steps 2027

IIMA uses a two-stage selection system across programs. First, candidates are shortlisted. Then the shortlisted candidates attend the required written test or interview rounds.

1. Apply for the chosen program within its application window.
2. Submit the required entrance score, such as CAT, GMAT, GRE, IAT, GATE or UGC-NET JRF, depending on the program.
3. IIMA prepares a shortlist using the entrance score, Application Rating, academic record, work experience and diversity factors wherever applicable.
4. Shortlisted candidates appear for the Written Test/AWT and Personal Interview as required by the program.
5. The final selection is made through the program-specific final composite score or interview assessment.

In Stage 1, the Composite Score combines the entrance test percentile with an Application Rating based on academics, work experience and diversity factors. In Stage 2, the Final Composite Score gives the highest weightage to PI performance, followed by the Stage 1 score and the written test.

PGP Selection Criteria: What Changed for 2027?

The PGP selection criteria have been updated for the 2027-29 batch. The changes affect academic classification, shortlisting, and the weight given to CAT and Application Rating.

• UG discipline: The earlier 6 Academic Categories, AC-1 to AC-6, have been replaced with 20 specific UG disciplines.
• Academic scoring: Class 12 and graduation marks are now checked through one common scoring table instead of different tables for different academic categories.
• Shortlisting: The earlier top 5% selection method for each AC-RC group has been replaced by a discipline-wise normalized composite score.
• Academic filters: The earlier P threshold and 80th-percentile graduation rule have been removed.
• CAT weight: CAT's effective weight in the Final Composite Score has gone up from 25% to 26%.
• Application Rating: Application Rating's effective weight in the Final Composite Score has gone down from 15% to 14%.
• Work experience: The work experience scoring method is unchanged, and freshers still get 0 work-experience points.

In simple words, the 2027-29 policy gives more focus to the student's exact UG discipline and CAT performance. Academic marks still matter, but some earlier academic screening filters have been removed.

IIM Ahmedabad appears in national and global ranking lists for 2026. In NIRF Management, IIMA has held Rank 1 for 6 consecutive years from 2020 to 2025; the 2026 NIRF edition has not been released yet.

IIM Ahmedabad vs IIM Bangalore vs IIM Calcutta

IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta are often called IIM-ABC. They are among India's oldest and most recognised IIMs. Students aiming for very high CAT percentiles usually consider all three, but the final choice can depend on location, course structure, career goals and alumni network.

All three institutes are leading business schools, but each one has a different strength.
