CU Kashmir Admission Dates 2027

The 2027-28 admission process is expected to include CUET registration, entrance examinations and CU Kashmir centralised counselling. The tentative schedule is given below.

Different course groups use the following entrance examinations for admission.

CU Kashmir Courses and Fees

CU Kashmir has more than 40 undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated and doctoral programmes. The following table presents representative course fees based on 2025 data, along with duration and entry requirements.

Male and female students can apply for hostel accommodation, which costs up to INR 6,900 per year. Central government funding helps keep this charge low, while programme fees are set according to UGC norms for central universities.

CU Kashmir Admission Process

Undergraduate and postgraduate selection at CU Kashmir follows the Common University Entrance Test system managed by the National Testing Agency. The university does not hold a separate entrance examination for these UG and PG courses.

UG Programmes (B.Tech, BA, BSc, BBA, BCom, BA LLB, BA + B.Ed)

1. Complete 10+2 through a recognised board with the subject combination required for the chosen course.
2. Meet the qualifying examination requirement. General category students need at least 45%, while B.Tech applicants need 50%.
3. Appear for CUET UG because a valid score is compulsory.
4. Register for the CUET-based centralised counselling organised by CU Kashmir.
5. Check the course-specific cutoff issued after each counselling round.
6. Complete admission under the central reservation policy, which provides 15% of seats for SC, 7.5% for ST and 27% for OBC-NCL applicants.
7. PWD applicants receive a 5% horizontal reservation.

PG Programmes (MA, MSc, MCom, LLM, MTech, MEd)

A relevant Bachelor’s degree and a CUET PG score are required for PG admission. Depending on the course, applicants must have between 45% and 55% in the qualifying degree. Valid GATE scores may make M.Tech applicants eligible for direct admission linked to a fellowship. CU Kashmir announces separate CUET PG cutoffs for individual programmes after every counselling round.

PhD Admission

PhD applicants need a postgraduate degree with at least 55%, reduced to 50% for SC and ST applicants. Those who have qualified UGC NET or UGC-CSIR JRF may enter through the direct admission route. Non-JRF applicants must take the university entrance examination. The seats offered each year depend on department quotas and the availability of research supervisors.

CU Kashmir Placements and Career Outcomes

CU Kashmir has a placement and career guidance cell that helps students prepare for jobs and competitive examinations. Since the university is a centrally funded institution founded in 2009, many graduates move towards government examinations, academic research and professional services instead of relying only on regular campus recruitment.

Engineering graduates may take GATE for PSU recruitment or research fellowships. Students from humanities, social sciences and education commonly prepare for UPSC CSE, JKPSC and UGC NET. Law graduates can seek Bar Council enrolment or sit for the J&K Judicial Services examination. M.Ed graduates may qualify for government teaching posts through state TET and recruitment board examinations.

CU Kashmir Rankings

CU Kashmir takes part in the NIRF categories relevant to its academic profile. Its 2025 results cover the University, Overall and State Public University categories.

The university has improved its NIRF position since being established in 2009, alongside growth in research output, faculty strength and student performance. Its 8th position in the NIRF 2025 State Public University category places it among the prominent higher education institutions in Jammu and Kashmir. CU Kashmir also has a NAAC B++ grade.

CU Kashmir Scholarships

Students may apply for government scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal. Available schemes support learners from Jammu and Kashmir, economically weaker families, reserved categories and research programmes.

PhD scholars holding a UGC or CSIR JRF can receive a monthly research fellowship. Students must submit a separate application for each central government scheme after joining the university.

CU Kashmir Campus and Infrastructure

CU Kashmir occupies a 500-acre semi-rural campus in Ganderbal district in the Kashmir Valley. Facilities include separate academic blocks for its schools, science and engineering research laboratories, a central library, a computer centre, a health centre and a sports complex. The university also runs reading rooms, coaching cell facilities and NCC and NSS units throughout the year.

Separate hostels serve male and female students. Accommodation costs up to INR 6,900 per year, which makes campus housing accessible to students from economically weaker backgrounds. Hostel seats are allotted according to availability.

CU Kashmir vs Central University of Jammu vs University of Kashmir

CU Kashmir, Central University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir are UGC-recognised institutions serving students from Jammu and Kashmir. The first two are central universities created through Parliament, while the University of Kashmir is an older state university based in Srinagar.

CU Kashmir has the leading regional NIRF position and a wider course mix that includes B.Tech and integrated science programmes, which the University of Kashmir does not offer. The University of Kashmir brings 75 years of institutional history and an established research tradition in humanities and social sciences. Central University of Jammu follows a similar funding and admission system to CU Kashmir, but it was established later in 2011 and mainly serves applicants from the Jammu region.
