Patil was the chief founder of this university in 2008. In 1990, Dr. Patil took the responsibility to run BLDEA. But soon after realizing the need for a separate university to coach students in the field of medicine and research, he launched BLDE University in 2008.

According to the UGC Act of 1956, this college was deemed to be a university under Article 3 act. At the UG level, the university offers MBBS and B.Sc. courses. Additionally, the university provides MS, MD, M.CH, and M.Sc. degrees at the PG level.
