Mangalore University Courses and Fees

Mangalagangotri campus primarily serves postgraduate and research students through its 26 postgraduate departments, although selected undergraduate courses are also available. Programme fees are controlled by the Karnataka government and remain among the lower state-regulated charges for similar postgraduate courses.

Students domiciled in Karnataka who belong to SC, ST or OBC categories may qualify for state fee-reimbursement schemes, reducing their final study cost. Main-campus programmes do not offer management-quota or NRI-quota seats.

Mangalore University Admission Process

Admission rules differ by course. KEA manages MBA and MCA selection through Karnataka PGCET, while marks obtained in graduation determine admission to the other postgraduate programmes through UUCMS. PhD applicants follow the university’s entrance-test and interview process. Undergraduate selection is based on 10+2 marks.

MBA and MCA Admission

KEA fills every MBA and MCA seat through centralised counselling according to Karnataka PGCET rank. Mangalore University does not hold another entrance examination or interview for either course.

• MBA eligibility: A bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate marks is required. The minimum is 45% for SC, ST and OBC applicants.
• MCA eligibility: Applicants need a bachelor’s degree, Mathematics at either 10+2 or degree level, and at least 50% aggregate marks. Reserved-category applicants require 45%.
• Selection: KEA uses the PGCET merit rank, online choice filling and seat allotment to assign seats at the Mangalore University campus.

In recent admission cycles, applicants ranked within the top 500 to 1,000 in PGCET MBA have usually obtained seats at the university. KEA conducts several allotment rounds. After receiving a seat, an applicant must pay the required fee and report by the stated deadline to confirm admission.

M.Sc, MA, M.Com, MSW, M.Ed and Other PG Admission

Graduation aggregate marks form the merit score for postgraduate courses other than MBA and MCA. Applications are filed on UUCMS, the Government of Karnataka portal, and no separate entrance examination applies. General-category applicants require 50% in the relevant graduation subject, while reserved-category applicants require 45%.

PhD Admission

PhD selection starts with the Mangalore University Research Entrance Test (RET) and is followed by a personal interview. During each academic year, the university periodically issues Notification I, II and III for vacancies in different departments. Applicants must hold a master’s degree with at least 55%, prepare a research proposal and appear before a doctoral committee for final selection.

UG Programmes

Admission to BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA and BCA Hons at the main campus is based on 10+2 marks and completed through Karnataka’s UUCMS portal. Colleges affiliated with Mangalore University manage their own undergraduate admissions while following university rules and Karnataka government guidelines.

Admission Steps

1. Check the eligibility requirements for the chosen programme.
2. For MBA or MCA, take Karnataka PGCET and register for KEA counselling. For other PG and main-campus UG courses, submit the application through UUCMS. PhD applicants must apply through the university portal.
3. Upload or provide the academic and category documents required for the selected admission route.
4. Complete KEA choice filling for MBA or MCA, wait for the merit decision for other PG and UG programmes, or attend the RET and interview for a PhD.
5. After selection or seat allotment, pay the programme fee and report within the specified period.

Mangalore University Placements

Campus recruitment mainly supports MBA and MCA students, and the university career placement cell organises drives for these professional courses. Students completing M.Sc, MA, M.Com and research-focused programmes more often continue to doctoral study, prepare for government examinations or seek academic work.

Professional postgraduate programmes have reported an overall placement rate of 88% in recent cycles. Among placed MBA and MCA students, the median package was INR 4.5 LPA, while the highest package reached INR 12 LPA. Recruiters came from BFSI, IT services, retail and analytics.

Many MBA graduates choose employment in Mangaluru, Bengaluru or businesses based in coastal Karnataka because a large share of the university’s students come from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu. MCA students enter software-service companies and other IT employers across Karnataka. Banking and finance, port logistics, retail and hospitality are important industries in coastal Karnataka that hire graduates from the university’s professional programmes.

Research organisations, teaching and examinations such as CSIR-NET, SET and GATE are common routes for M.Sc graduates. Those studying Biotechnology or Biochemistry may also enter pharmaceutical and food-processing businesses in the region. UGC-NET, Karnataka SET, banking tests and civil services examinations are major progression options for MA and M.Com graduates.

Mangalore University Rankings

Mangalore University takes part in NIRF but is not listed in the major international rankings. Under the University category, its latest stated NIRF result is the 151-200 band for 2025.

Mangalore University Scholarships

Eligible learners at the university and its affiliated colleges may receive scholarships from the Karnataka government, the central government or Mangalore University. State programmes include fee reimbursement for qualifying Karnataka residents, while university awards recognise strong academic performance.

Applications for Karnataka schemes are made through the Karnataka Rajyotsava scholarship portal. Central schemes use the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Students can consult the university scholarship portal for the procedure and for merit awards linked to particular programmes.

Mangalore University Campus and Infrastructure

Mangalagangotri, Konaje, is a 353-acre campus situated 20 km from Mangaluru and connected to the city by road. Its facilities serve 26 postgraduate departments and include a central library, computer centres, research laboratories, sports grounds, a health centre, a post office, a bank branch, canteens and student hostels. Books, academic journals and digital databases in science, humanities and management are available through the central library.

The campus has residential facilities for students as well as faculty quarters. Its setting has green, forested surroundings designed to support study and research. Mangalore University also runs a postgraduate centre at Kushalanagar for learners in Kodagu. The institution’s jurisdiction extends across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts.

Mangalore University vs University of Mysore vs Kuvempu University

Mangalore University, University of Mysore and Kuvempu University are public state universities in Karnataka. All three provide comparable choices in management, science, commerce and humanities, but they differ in age, accreditation, ranking and the regions they mainly serve.

University of Mysore has the strongest academic position in this comparison through its NIRF top-50 standing and NAAC A+ grade. Mangalore University is the main affiliating university for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu, giving students from these districts greater regional access. Kuvempu University, located in Shivamogga, serves central Karnataka and occupies a similar institutional tier to Mangalore University. Postgraduate fees at all three institutions follow affordable, state-regulated structures.
