Chennai Mathematical Institute offers UG, PG, and Ph.D. courses in the Science domain. Admission to all the courses is expected to commence in May. CMI Siruseri: B.Sc Admission 2025

Chennai Mathematical Institute offers B.Sc (Hons) in two specializations namely Mathematics & Computer Science; and Mathematics & Physics. The duration of the B.Sc Courses is Three years Full time.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have passed their 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized Board are eligible to take admission to B.Sc Courses. One should have at least 50% aggregate marks in his 12th examination.

Selection Criteria

Selection of the candidates for the B.Sc courses is done on the basis of the Entrance exam conducted by the Institution.
Candidates who have achieved good marks in National Olympiad in Physics, and Mathematics are eligible to take admitted to CMI without giving the entrance examination

CMI Siruseri: M.Sc Admission 2025

CMI offers M.Sc courses in three different specializations with a duration of two years. Interested candidates can take admission by filling out an online form from the official website. The specializations offered are Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science.

Eligibility Criteria

A candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree (BA/B.Sc/ B.Math/ B.Stat/ BE/ B.Tech) in Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Science from a recognized College/University.

Selection Criteria

The final selection of the candidates is based on the entrance examination that is conducted by the Institute itself.

CMI also offers Ph.D. courses in Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. Candidates who fulfill the eligibility requirements are eligible to take admitted to Ph.D. in Chennai Mathematical Institute.

Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D. Mathematics: Candidates should have a Masters’s degree in Mathematics or Equivalent. Candidates with BE degrees or Science can also apply for admission.
Ph.D. Computer Science: Candidates who have a Bachelor's Degree in BE/ B.Tech/ M.Sc/ or MCA and Degree in Science are eligible for getting admission to Ph.D. Computer Science.
Ph.D. Physics: One should have done his M.Sc Degree in physics or equivalent from a recognized College/University.

Selection Criteria

For Ph.D. in Mathematics and Computer Science, Candidates are selected on the basis of the Entrance exam and interview conducted by the Institution and For Ph.D Physics, the selection is done on the basis of JEST in Physics (Joint Entrance Screening Test) followed by an Interview.

Chennai Mathematical Institute: A place for Mathematics monks.

What I Liked

The faculty is good and have experience in teaching for years.
The infrastructure is neat and geometrically pleasing, with plenty of trees and hedges and open spaces.

What I didn’t like

Faculties are sometimes too terse and fast in teaching. Question papers are often blatantly difficult and often the professors find it hard to relate with the student's level of understanding.
Life is very slow and very little socializing in general. Not many fun events and daily life is mostly dry.

Remarks:

CMI is known for its excellence in Mathematics and Computer Science programs. The research group consists of highly skilled professionals and the professors are extremely qualified, with most of them having done their higher educations abroad. The course work is tremendous and even the Math courses in B.Sc. are comparable to M.Sc. courses in other colleges. Admission to this program is through a nationwide entrance with a 3-hour paper, having two parts. The first part is for screening consisting of objective questions. If you clear the cutoff, your second part is checked, which is of subjective questions. The paper is difficult, and comparable to the Regional Mathematics Olympiad level. There is a final interview before selection. The college campus is neat and clean with all facilities. Food is good. The only bad is that people here are too focused on their studies and hardly any social life.
