IIT Delhi Admission Dates 2026

IIT Delhi uses national-level entrance tests for its main programmes. B.Tech and Dual Degree admission is through JEE Advanced and JoSAA counselling. M.Tech uses GATE, MBA uses CAT, and MSc uses JAM. The next listed admission timelines are for upcoming cycles.

IIT Delhi Courses and Fees

IIT Delhi offers courses in engineering, technology, design, management, and science. B.Tech is its main UG programme and has 13 disciplines with 1,089 seats. The listed total fees range from INR 3.81 lakhs for M.Tech to INR 12 lakhs for MBA. PhD students receive a monthly research fellowship, so the programme is effectively funded.

B.Tech branches include Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Physics, Production and Industrial Engineering, Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Textile Technology, and Materials Science and Engineering. Computer Science and Mathematics and Computing are among the toughest branches to get. In JEE Advanced 2026, General Category closing ranks for these branches were usually below rank 200.

IIT Delhi Admission Process

Admission to IIT Delhi is based on entrance exams for all major courses. The institute does not offer management quota seats or donation-based admission.

B.Tech and Dual Degree

For B.Tech and Dual Degree admission, students need at least 75% aggregate in Class 12 or a place in the top 20 percentile of their board. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are compulsory subjects. For the 2026 cycle, General Category students must be born on or after October 1, 2001.

• Stage 1: Clear JEE Main to become eligible for JEE Advanced.
• Stage 2: Take JEE Advanced and get a valid rank.
• Stage 3: Register for JoSAA, enter preferred programmes, and lock the choices.
• Stage 4: Check the seat allotment results released in rounds, with up to 5 rounds in JoSAA 2026.
• Stage 5: Complete online document checking and pay the required fee to accept the seat.
• Stage 6: Report physically at IIT Delhi for document verification and registration.

For General Category seats at IIT Delhi in JEE Advanced 2026, Computer Science and Engineering closed broadly between rank 1 and 200. Electrical Engineering closed around rank 200 to 500, while Mechanical and Civil Engineering were in the rank 500 to 1,200 range. Mathematics and Computing had a closing rank close to Computer Science.

M.Tech

M.Tech applicants must have a B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree and a valid GATE score in the relevant paper. IIT Delhi considers GATE scores from all 29 papers based on the department. A shortlisted student may have to appear for a written test, an interview, or both. Selected GATE-qualified students get a Teaching Assistantship of INR 12,400 per month during the course.

MBA (Department of Management Studies)

For MBA admission, students need a Bachelor’s degree with at least 60% marks. The minimum is 55% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. A valid CAT score is also required. IIT Delhi DMS calls shortlisted candidates for a Written Ability Test and Personal Interview at the institute. Each MBA batch usually has 100 to 120 students. The course gives strong attention to operations, strategy, and analytics, along with core management subjects.

MSc, BDes, and PhD

MSc seats are filled through JAM, with separate merit lists for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. BDes admission uses the UCEED score and portfolio review, while MDes needs a CEED score. PhD applicants qualify through GATE, UGC-NET, or CSIR-NET, followed by a written test and interview by the concerned department. PhD admission takes place twice a year, for the July and December intake cycles.

IIT Delhi Placements

IIT Delhi recorded 1,275 total offers in the 2025-26 placement season. This count includes more than 300 Pre-Placement Offers for students from B.Tech, Dual Degree, M.Tech, MBA, MSc, and Design programmes. The PPO number was 33% higher than the previous year. Companies from the UAE, Singapore, the Netherlands, Japan, and the UK made more than 35 international offers.

The highest domestic package was INR 1 CPA, while the highest international package reached INR 2 CPA. B.Tech 4-year students had a median CTC of INR 20 LPA. Dual Degree 5-year students had a median CTC of INR 30 LPA. For MBA students from the Department of Management Studies, the highest offer was INR 43.55 LPA and the average package was INR 22.52 LPA.

More than 1,140 students received job offers. Major hiring areas were technology, consulting, finance, and core engineering. IIT Delhi placements include both Indian and international recruiters across different industries.

IIT Delhi Rankings

IIT Delhi is among India’s leading engineering institutes in NIRF and also has a strong global position in QS rankings. In the QS World University Rankings 2026, it reached 123rd place globally. The rise was linked to better employer reputation, where it ranked 50th worldwide, and stronger citation performance. In the QS Subject Rankings 2026, IIT Delhi was ranked 36th globally in Engineering and Technology.

IIT Delhi Scholarships

IIT Delhi offers financial support for UG and PG students through merit-cum-means aid, donor-funded scholarships, and research fellowships. Each year, about 25% of B.Tech students can receive the main MCM scholarship.

SC, ST, and PwD students get a full tuition fee waiver without any income condition. IIT Delhi also handles external scholarships such as INSPIRE, the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme, and HTRA for PhD students working under sponsored projects.

IIT Delhi Campus and Infrastructure

IIT Delhi has a 325-acre campus at Hauz Khas in South Delhi. It is one of the few top engineering institutes located inside a state capital. Hauz Khas Metro station on the Yellow Line is within walking distance, so public transport access is strong.

The campus has 16 student hostels and can house about 7,000 students. Of these, 13 hostels are for male students and 3 are for female students. Hostels include common rooms, TV lounges, reading spaces, indoor games facilities, laundry, and 24x7 high-speed internet. The central library has more than 1.9 lakh books and 1.03 lakh bound journals, along with access to major digital databases.

Important academic and research facilities include the Central Research Facility, Nanoscale Research Facility, and a High Performance Computing centre. Sports facilities include a swimming pool, gymnasium, cricket ground, football turf, tennis courts, and an indoor sports complex. The campus also has an amphitheatre, medical centre, shopping complex, banks, and several cafeterias. IIT Delhi has also opened a satellite campus in Abu Dhabi, its first international academic campus.

IIT Delhi vs IIT Bombay vs IIT Madras

Students with very high JEE Advanced ranks often compare IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Madras. All three are Institutes of National Importance and have similar B.Tech fee levels and strong infrastructure. The main differences are in location, branch strengths, and ranking performance.

IIT Delhi has the better QS World rank and its NCR location helps students looking at government, PSU, and consulting careers. IIT Madras is ranked first by NIRF in both Engineering and Overall and is strong in research output. IIT Bombay is often chosen by students interested in finance and product roles in Mumbai, and it is also known for Design and interdisciplinary innovation. At this level, branch choice should come before the institute comparison because all three have similar B.Tech fees and strong international placement outcomes among top students.
