  • Delhi School of Economics PG Admission 2024: CSAS(PG) Round 2 allocation is released and the last date for fee payment is July 9, 2024. Round 3 allocation will be released on July 16, 2024, and the last date for fee payment is July 21, 2024. The mid-entry window will be open from July 11 to 13, 2024.

The Delhi School of Economics (DSE), established in 1949, is a leading institution for higher education and research in economics, commerce, sociology, and geography. Situated within the University of Delhi, DSE was founded by the visionary economist Professor V.K.R.V. Rao. Recognized by the University Grants Commission as a Centre for Advanced Studies, DSE has a distinguished history of academic rigor and research impact.

DSE offers two undergraduate programs: a BA in Economics and a BA Program, both spanning three years. For admission to the BA in Economics, candidates must have completed their 10+2 education with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate. For the BA Program, a minimum of 40% marks in 10+2 is required from a recognized board. Admissions are based on marks obtained in the CUET, followed by an e-counseling process. The 2023 CUET cutoff for BA Economics under the general category was 754.6. The course fee for both the BA Economics and BA Program at DSE is INR 29,900.

DSE offers a two-year MA program in Economics at the postgraduate level. The program has a unique admission process: 50% of the seats are reserved for direct admissions, which are available to candidates holding a BA in Economics from Delhi University with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks. The remaining 50% of seats are filled through the CUET PG admission test. For this test-based admission route, candidates must have completed a UG or PG degree from a recognized university with at least 60% aggregate marks. The minimum qualifying marks in the entrance test are set at 40% for the General category and 36% for the OBC category. The course fee for the MA in Economics program is INR 17,770.

DSE, under the Faculty of Commerce, offers an MBA program with specializations in International Business and Human Resource and Organizational Development. To be eligible, applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate marks, with relaxed eligibility criteria for reserved categories as per university regulations. Admission is based on a valid CAT score, with the 2023 CAT cutoff for the General category set at the 92 percentile. The total course fee for an MBA is INR 97.74k.

DSE serves as a research hub under the University of Delhi, offering M.Phil and Ph.D. programs in Economics. To be eligible for these programs, candidates must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least 55% marks. Admission is primarily based on the CUET (PhD) entrance exam conducted by the NTA. However, candidates who have cleared national-level exams such as CSIR/UGC-NET (JRF), DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, or DST-INSPIRE can bypass the entrance test and directly participate in the interview stage. The entrance exam acts as a qualifying test, requiring a minimum score of 50% to pass, with a relaxation of 45% for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-abled candidates.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have completed just the first Semester but have experienced all of it. Course curriculum is exceptional and you will learn a lot about the international business world. The faculty is highly qualified, from London school of economics, FMS DU, JNU, SRCC, etc. definitely you will learn a lot. I chose this course mostly because of financial constraints and also because of the Brand value of DSE and DU. The teaching method of the teachers is very practical, meaning they will give you real life examples for every scenario and also they are absolutely fine in taking doubts and all. The term exams were on time, and to be honest they were not like you have to memorise some stuff and give the exam. The exams were very practical, and you just have to know and understand the concepts and you can write in the exam.

Placement Experience:

There is no such eligibilty criteria from the institutions side, but there can be from the companies side. It changes with company to company. The placement scenario is very good right now, as 80% of our senior batch is placed till now and some of the companies that have visited are BMW group, Volvo, Icici Bank, Axis Bank, Infosys, Tata Power, Federal Bank, etc. Highest package offered is 27 Lakhs and the average package is around 14.5-15 lakhs, with profiles in mostly Marketing, Operations, Finance, etc. Almost 100% placement rate is there and we are proud of it. With DSE being awarded as the best college in ROI by the Times group just a while back. After getting the degree , I want to go into the corporate world , get experience for a while and then work on my own business idea, which I have been working with some of my UG friends. Overall, the placement is excellent at DSE. Making it one of the best in terms of ROI.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because of the sole reason of ROI, I did not want to spend a lot on my MBA and this came out to be the best choice for me. Here we have continual assessments throughout the semester that include tests, presentations, etc. But we only have proper exams in the end of the semester that have a weightage of a staggering 70%. They are moderate to high in difficulty but that's fine. My seniors had a yearly fee of 12.5K, we have 48K. 48K is going to stay for the next few years at least.

Placement Experience:

There are no eligibility criteria by the college but there are some companies that have their eligibility criteria. No of offers made is close to 100, top recruiters were JP Morgan Chase and Co, Morgan Stanley, Deloitte, Infosys, AON, Tata, ICICI Bank, Jio Finance, Mahindra, Hindalco, etc. Students are offered various profiles for HR like Generalist, TA, Consultancy, Operations, Industrial Relations, etc. The highest package offered was 26.7Lac and the average is 14Lac. I am currently interning as an HR Generalist and plan to continue in the same field.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I wanted to work in the field of economics. Even if you are looking forward to work as analyst, data scientist or banker you can pursue this course. The curriculum is hard, you will need to practice a lot and attend classes even though attendance is not mandatory. The teachers are a mixed lot, some of them are great and for some you will need to self-study. There are 1-2 midterm or term paper depending on the subject of 30 marks and final exam of 70 marks in one semester. The midterms were harder than final exams for me. There are scholarships but all of them are merit based with a few need based ones, you will need to perform highly to score those, financial assistance is also provided.

Placement Experience:

There is no such eligibility criteria except no backlogs and you need to have a passing grade. The companies will look for your CGPA and will select mainly based on that plus an aptitude test, so you need to score good in exams. There is a summer internship session and one final placement session, companies like mastercard, amex, accenture etc come for recruitments. Highest package is from 35-40 lacs and average is around 17-18 lacs. Profiles are mainly data analyst, economic analyst, investment banker, marketing etc. Above 95% students get placements. I plan to work in research and policy field.
