Delhi School of Economics: A Journey Worth Talking

What I Liked

I like the course and curriculum as it has a lot to offer in terms of not just knowledge but practical life. The faculty is brilliant I would say, evident from the fact that without using a single slide professors can teach the students and they understand everything. They are really helpful in not just academics, but also with other problems as well, personal issues to be honest, and there is strict action for any sort of misbehaving and bullying. Students are also brilliant, you get a diverse pool of students from different fields and you get to learn a lot from them. This is one of the reasons I joined DSE, instead of any other DU colleges for MBA.
The best thing about DSE that I found really amazing is that the committees, Cells and clubs are all run by students, with ofcourse a faculty head, but overall they are all run by students. And let me tell you why this is amazing, it gives you the real practical experience of how your life would be after doing MBA and joining any corporate. You have a committee head, senior members, junior members, proper hiring interviews are being done by the senior members only. All the events are organised by the students only. It makes you capable to withstand difficulties and handle any situation under pressure.

What I didn’t like

I do not like the process of admission to be honest, I have noticed that because there is not GDPI process, it leads to the admission of many non-serious folks who are just there to cause nuisance. They have no regards for etiquettes or do not have even the decency of how to act in a college or an academic institution. Plus since, you are getting your MBA at such a low fees, where on the other hand people are spending 20-30 lakhs ,they do not get the real worth of it. So, my suggestion to the institution would be to get back the GDPI process to filter out the non-serious people.
The infrastructure is under development for some while as they are in the process of expansion. That's why it hinders the studies or even the placement process sometimes, so this is one of the things that I am currently disliking but they have assured that in 4-5 months time it'll be completed, so let's see.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have completed just the first Semester but have experienced all of it. Course curriculum is exceptional and you will learn a lot about the international business world. The faculty is highly qualified, from London school of economics, FMS DU, JNU, SRCC, etc. definitely you will learn a lot. I chose this course mostly because of financial constraints and also because of the Brand value of DSE and DU. The teaching method of the teachers is very practical, meaning they will give you real life examples for every scenario and also they are absolutely fine in taking doubts and all. The term exams were on time, and to be honest they were not like you have to memorise some stuff and give the exam. The exams were very practical, and you just have to know and understand the concepts and you can write in the exam.

Learning HRD the right way at DSE

What I Liked

The best thing about DSE is the ROI. For a fees of around 96K we have an average placement of 14Lac. ROI comes out to be around 15x which is a lot considering even IIM ABC give a ROI of 1.
Second best thing is the academic diversity of students found here. We have people from Pharma and Fishery to Engineering. Also, being in the DSE campus we are exposed to a lot of people from different streams like MA Economics which helps us have a diverse knowledge about the things.

What I didn’t like

The curriculum is quite old here. Mostly focused on the theoratical aspects doesn't give much insights into the real world issues happening right now.
We are a student driven college so we lack a bit of support from the faculty here altogether.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because of the sole reason of ROI, I did not want to spend a lot on my MBA and this came out to be the best choice for me. Here we have continual assessments throughout the semester that include tests, presentations, etc. But we only have proper exams in the end of the semester that have a weightage of a staggering 70%. They are moderate to high in difficulty but that's fine. My seniors had a yearly fee of 12.5K, we have 48K. 48K is going to stay for the next few years at least.

My experience with Delhi School of Economics (DSE)

What I Liked

Interactions with highly reputed people like financial advisors to GOI , Nobel laureates etc
Networking with one of the most talented groups of people

What I didn’t like

The infrastructure is not optimized for such a large batch.
Lack of clubs and societies other than academic ones

Course Curriculum Overview:

I wanted to work in the field of economics. Even if you are looking forward to work as analyst, data scientist or banker you can pursue this course. The curriculum is hard, you will need to practice a lot and attend classes even though attendance is not mandatory. The teachers are a mixed lot, some of them are great and for some you will need to self-study. There are 1-2 midterm or term paper depending on the subject of 30 marks and final exam of 70 marks in one semester. The midterms were harder than final exams for me. There are scholarships but all of them are merit based with a few need based ones, you will need to perform highly to score those, financial assistance is also provided.
