The low charges for traditional BA and B.Com courses place them among Jharkhand's least expensive degree options and help students from economically weaker families access college education. Students choosing Mundari, Santhali, Khortha, Kharia, Kurux, Nagpuri or Kurmali pay the same BA fees as those choosing mainstream subjects. These tribal language courses are among the few programmes in India that award academic credits for studying these languages.
The Ranchi University Chancellor Portal at jharkhanduniversities.nic.in handles applications. For mainstream BA, B.Sc and B.Com courses, selection depends on Class 12 marks, without a separate Marwari College entrance examination. UG applicants need at least 50% in Class 12 from a recognised board; the minimum is 45% for SC, ST and OBC applicants. Some professional and vocational courses use merit or entrance-based selection.
Class 12 marks form the basis of admission to self-financed UG options such as BBA, BCA, B.Sc in Computer Science, Computer Applications and IT, and B.Des. Mathematics at Class 12 level is compulsory for BCA and the B.Sc Computer Science, Computer Applications and IT courses. Biotechnology applicants must have studied Biology in Class 12.
Ranchi University's rules govern postgraduate selection. Applicants need 50% in graduation, reduced to 45% for SC and ST students. For MBA and MCA, the university may prescribe an additional entrance examination or merit screening for the session concerned.
Students seeking BA or BA {Hons.} in Mundari, Santhali, Khortha, Kharia, Kurux, Nagpuri or Kurmali apply through the same Chancellor Portal. Their selection follows the merit process used for other BA subjects.
Campus hiring is supported by the college's Placement Cell, mainly for BBA, BCA, B.Sc in CS/IT, MBA and MCA graduates. Students completing traditional arts, science and commerce degrees more often move on to further study, self-employment or competitive examinations such as JPSC, UPSC, SSC and Bank PO.
Recruitment for professional courses covers IT, banking and financial services, retail, telecom and FMCG, or fast-moving consumer goods. MBA and BBA graduates take up sales, operations, human resources and finance work with businesses in Jharkhand and eastern India. IT services and software companies provide opportunities for BCA and B.Sc CS/IT graduates.
| Programme Stream | Usual Career Route | Fields of Work |
|---|---|---|
| MBA | Placement Cell-supported campus hiring | Banking, FMCG, retail, human resources and operations |
| MCA / BCA / B.Sc (CS/IT) | Campus selection and recruitment by IT firms | IT services and software development |
| BBA | Campus hiring or starting a business | Sales, retail, operations and marketing |
| BA / B.Sc / B.Com | Further study and competitive examinations | Civil services, banking examinations, teaching and research |
| M.Sc in Biotechnology | Research assistant roles and pharmaceutical laboratory work | Life sciences, pharmaceuticals and diagnostics |
State civil services through JPSC, central civil services through UPSC and banking examinations are common goals among alumni. Being based in Ranchi, Jharkhand's capital, also gives graduates access to government offices and public sector undertakings. Those interested in pursuing law can explore legal career opportunities near the Jharkhand High Court.
Marwari College, Ranchi has no listed position in the NIRF College category for 2025.

More than 30 departments operate from the college's urban campus on Lake Road in Hindpiri. They cover arts, science, social science, commerce and vocational study. Swami Vivekanand Sarovar, also called Ranchi Lake, is nearby. Road connections make the campus accessible from central Ranchi, and the city centre is within walking distance. Students travel here from across Ranchi and neighbouring districts.
Teaching facilities include classrooms and departmental laboratories for Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Biotechnology and Computer studies. The central library holds textbooks and reference books, with separate rooms for reading. Computer laboratories support students in BCA, BBA, B.Sc CS/IT and MCA. Science laboratories allow undergraduates to complete practical work in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Biotechnology. Both indoor and outdoor sports facilities are available.
Departmental seminars, NSS activities and inter-college competitions form part of student life. Tribal language and culture programmes also feature in the academic and cultural calendar. Language departments hold promotion events and cultural activities in Mundari, Santhali and other tribal languages of Jharkhand.
Eligible students can access central and Jharkhand government financial support, including schemes for SC, ST, OBC and EBC groups through the National Scholarship Portal and state programmes. Full-course BA and B.Com fees fall between INR 9,000 and INR 13,920. For most humanities and commerce students, the SC/ST Post-Matric Scholarship exceeds the tuition cost. Ranchi College is the oldest of the three and charges the lowest fees. It is a non-autonomous affiliated college and has fewer professional programmes.
Marwari College combines fees below those of private colleges with professional choices such as MBA, MCA, B.Des and BBA, giving it a broader professional course range than Ranchi College. Its BA options in tribal languages are also among the most extensive in India.
