Doranda College, also called DC Ranchi, is a government constituent college affiliated to Ranchi University in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Founded in 1962, it became a constituent college in 1977 and operates under the Jharkhand government. Its National Assessment and Accreditation Council accreditation is B+.

Located in Ranchi's Doranda area, one of Jharkhand's major educational hubs, the college is a principal institution for arts, science and commerce. Its departments also cover humanities, natural sciences, management, education and computer sciences. Tribal and regional language Honours courses form a distinctive part of its undergraduate offerings.

Honours Subjects and Specialised Study

BA Honours subjects include Hindi, English, Bengali, Economics, History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Sanskrit and Urdu. The college also teaches 6 tribal and regional languages at Honours level: Khortha, Kurmali, Kurukh, also written Kurux, Mundari, Nagpuri and Panch Pargania.

The tribal language programmes reflect Jharkhand's regional language policy and serve students from tribal and scheduled community backgrounds. Doranda is among the few Ranchi colleges providing Honours study in these languages. MRM focuses on development management and rural administration within the Jharkhand context.

Doranda College Admission Routes and Process

Ranchi University manages the centralised admission calendar and merit counselling. For the 2026-27 session, undergraduate admission information specifies CUET UG scores for BA, B.Sc, B.Com and BBA, with allotment through university merit counselling. Admissions are described as continuing in October 2026; the UG counselling period is listed as August to October 2026. B.Ed, MBA, MCA and postgraduate merit admissions are also described as in progress for this session.

General category applicants need a graduation degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate. Selection uses the B.Ed paper of the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination, JCECE.

Management and Computer Applications Admission

MBA requires graduation in any stream with at least 50% aggregate. MCA requires graduation with at least 50% and Mathematics. MBA is offered through the college's Faculty of Management Studies.

Arts and science Honours graduates mainly pursue UPSC, JPSC and SSC examinations, government service, teaching after NET or SET qualification, and further study such as MA, M.Sc and PhD. NET also appears among the examinations pursued by these graduates. The placement cell concentrates on programmes with more direct routes into corporate employment.

Its private Jesuit character brings higher fees than Doranda. Doranda is presented as the strongest government alternative, combining low fees, B+ accreditation and a tribal language Honours portfolio unavailable at most other colleges.

Marwari offers a government-aided option with a narrower programme range. Among these three institutions, Doranda is identified as the most suitable choice for applicants prioritising the lowest government college fees and tribal language study.
