Ranchi Women’s College (RWC) admits women to every programme and is among Jharkhand’s oldest women’s colleges. Established by the Government of Jharkhand in 1949, it is a constituent college affiliated to Ranchi University. The college has UGC recognition, a NAAC B++ grade, and autonomous status dating from 2011-12.

Ranchi Women’s College Admission Steps

Selection depends on the programme: CUET UG scores guide admission to the regular undergraduate honours courses, while professional and postgraduate courses follow their own merit or entrance routes. The Jharkhand Chancellor’s Portal handles central UG seat allotment for the 2026-27 session. Separate college merit lists apply to professional courses such as BBA, BCA and B.Ed.

Programme GroupSelection Route
BA Hons, B.Sc Hons and B.Com HonsCUET UG scores processed through the Jharkhand Chancellor’s Portal
BBA and BCA HonsClass 12 merit followed by the college selection list
B.EdJharkhand B.Ed Entrance Test, referred to as JTET-BEd, or an equivalent state entrance examination
B.VocClass 12 merit and a college admission list
MA, M.Com and M.ScUndergraduate marks through Ranchi University’s PG admission process
MBA and MCACAT, MAT, JHUMAT or an equivalent state-level entrance examination

Applying for BA Hons, B.Sc Hons and B.Com Hons

For these honours programmes, the Chancellor’s Portal uses CUET UG performance as the main basis for selection. Applicants complete the following stages:

  • Check eligibility first: applicants must be women and must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board with at least 45% aggregate marks.
  • Register for CUET UG and take the examination conducted by NTA, normally in May each year.
  • Once the CUET UG results are available, create a registration on the Jharkhand Chancellor’s Portal and enter programme preferences.
  • Check the college’s provisional selection lists, which take account of CUET UG scores and category reservations.
  • If selected, visit the college for verification with original Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, the category certificate, and an income certificate wherever required.
  • Pay the admission fee before the notified payment window ends to confirm the seat.

Popular honours subjects, including English and Economics, generally call for strong marks in the relevant CUET UG domain. Jharkhand government reservation rules apply to SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PH categories.

Applying for BBA, BCA, B.Ed and B.Voc

College selection lists for BBA, BCA Hons and B.Voc use Class 12 marks. The general-category Class 12 minimum stated for professional UG admission is 45%; B.Ed also has the separate bachelor’s-degree requirement of 50% shown in the eligibility table and follows the Jharkhand B.Ed entrance process.

Applying for MA, M.Com and M.Sc

Ranchi University’s central postgraduate admission portal processes applications in Arts, Commerce and Science. A relevant bachelor’s honours degree with at least 45% is required. Certain M.Sc subjects, including Biotechnology and Nutrition, may also use subject-specific entrance tests.

Applying for MBA and MCA

A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% is needed for MBA and MCA. MBA applicants must hold a valid CAT, MAT or Jharkhand state-level management entrance score. MCA applicants must also have studied Mathematics at bachelor’s level. Ranchi University’s PG counselling process handles admission to both courses.

Ranchi Women’s College Campus Facilities

Both college blocks stand in central Ranchi on Circular Road, with public transport connections from across the district. One block serves Arts students; the other houses Science, Commerce and Vocational teaching. Ranchi University’s main campus is nearby, giving students access to shared academic resources, inter-college activities and examination-related facilities.

Students have access to the following facilities and activities:

  • Women’s accommodation in Hostel No. 2 and Hostel No. 4, with annual hostel charges of up to INR 2,000.
  • Subject laboratories for Biotechnology, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.
  • Computer laboratories used by BCA, B.Voc Information Technology, Computer Application and M.Sc Tech students.
  • A library holding reference material across the humanities and sciences.
  • Seminar halls for departmental programmes, visiting speakers and student presentations.
  • Active National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) units.

UGC autonomy gives the college control over its own syllabi and internal assessments. It can therefore set these independently of Ranchi University’s standard curriculum.

Ranchi Women’s College Scholarship Support

Eligible students can apply for central and state government schemes through the National Scholarship Portal. These include support for SC, ST, OBC and minority students. The college helps applicants with scholarship registration and the required documents.

ScholarshipEligibilitySupport Available
Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST studentsSC or ST students enrolled in a UG or PG course whose family income falls below the scheme’s eligibility limitTuition fees and a maintenance allowance
