Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) is a public state university for women in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. It began in 1953 as Jamshedpur Women’s College, founded by Perin C. Mehta, and became a university in 2019 under the Jharkhand State University Amendment Act. JWU is the first women’s university in Jharkhand, is recognised by UGC, and has NAAC A accreditation.

Government-aided BA, B.Sc, and MA courses at JWU start from an annual fee of INR 5,100. Self-financing programmes such as BCA and B.Sc IT have higher fee structures.

JWU Admission Process

UG Programmes (BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA, BCA, BJMC, B.Ed)

JWU accepts only women candidates for UG admission. Students apply online through the Jharkhand Chancellor’s Portal at universities.jharkhand.gov.in. CUET-qualified applicants get first preference during selection.

  • Eligibility: Class 12 or an equivalent exam from a recognised board, in the stream required for the chosen course
  • Selection priority: CUET score for CUET-qualified students, followed by Class 12 merit for seats left vacant
  • Required documents: Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, caste certificate if applicable, income certificate, domicile certificate, and ID proof

JWU usually releases three to four merit lists before the final allotment round. Students must attend document verification on the given date to confirm their seat. If seats remain vacant after regular rounds, the university may hold spot admissions.

PG Programmes (MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MBA, M.Ed, M.Lib)

For PG admission, students need a relevant Bachelor’s degree in the required subject. The minimum aggregate is usually 45% to 50%, based on the yearly prospectus.

  • MA (all subjects): Relevant BA/BSc/BCom degree with the required minimum aggregate
  • MBA: Any Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate, along with a valid MAT/CAT/CMAT score or university entrance score
