SGPGIMS Courses and Fees

SGPGIMS is meant mainly for students who already have a medical or science background. MBBS graduates can apply for MD, DM and M.Ch training, while eligible science graduates can apply for nursing, paramedical and allied health science courses.

Students in MD and DM programmes receive a Junior Resident government stipend of INR 56,000 to INR 2 Lakhs per month, depending on the level of the programme. This stipend can cover the low course fee within the first year for many residents.

SGPGIMS Admission Process

SGPGIMS does not hold its own entrance exam for MD, DM or M.Ch admission. Seats in these programmes are allotted only through national entrance exam ranks. MCC and DGME UP decide the counselling rules, seat allotment process and reservation norms.

MD/MS Admission

• Eligibility: MBBS from a recognised university with a completed 1-year rotating internship
• Entrance exam: NEET PG score
• Seat division: 50% seats through MCC All India Quota counselling and 50% seats through DGME UP state quota counselling
• UP domicile certificate is required for state quota seats
• Process: NEET PG result, MCC/DGME registration, choice filling, seat allotment, document verification and joining

For MD programmes at SGPGIMS, the NEET PG 2025 closing rank ranged from 104 to 1,17,053 across specialties, categories and counselling rounds. Radiodiagnosis and Anaesthesiology usually need much stronger ranks than less competitive specialties.

DM/M.Ch Admission (Super-Specialty)

• Eligibility: MD in the relevant clinical specialty for DM, or MS in the relevant surgical specialty for M.Ch
• Entrance exam: NEET SS score
• All DM and M.Ch seats are filled through MCC NEET SS counselling, and SGPGIMS does not have a state quota for these seats
• NEET SS DM 2024 closing rank ranged from 34 to 3,938 across specialties and categories
• NEET SS M.Ch 2024 closing rank ranged from 114 to 3,696

B.Sc/BPT/M.Sc/MHA Admission

• B.Sc paramedical and BPT admission is based on NEET UG score, with 10+2 PCB and 50% marks required
• M.Sc admission is based on an institute-level entrance examination
• MHA admission is through the institute entrance test and is open to graduates from all streams
• Ph.D. admission includes a written test followed by a departmental interview

SGPGIMS Placements and Career Outcomes

SGPGIMS does not follow the usual campus placement model. For MD, DM and M.Ch students, career options depend on whether they choose residency, government service, private hospitals, academic posts or research work. Graduates from this NIRF 2025 Medical rank 5 institute are placed strongly in both public and private healthcare systems.

BPT and B.Sc paramedical graduates work in hospital physiotherapy units, diagnostic services and allied health roles. In corporate hospital chains, paramedical graduates usually start with salaries between INR 4 LPA and INR 8 LPA, based on their specialisation.

SGPGIMS Campus and Infrastructure

SGPGIMS has a 650-acre residential campus on Raebareli Road, making it one of the largest medical campus complexes in Uttar Pradesh. The campus includes the main hospital building, student and faculty residences, administrative blocks and research centres. MD, DM and M.Ch residents stay on campus during their training period.

The hospital has 1,582 beds and is a Level I Trauma Centre with a helipad for emergency air transfers. It also has a 24-hour emergency department, intensive care tower, blood bank, nuclear medicine facility and 32 clinical and para-clinical departments. Because the hospital receives rare and complex cases from northern India, students get high-volume super-specialty clinical exposure.

Hostels are available for male and female students at INR 3,000 per month. The campus also has a sports ground, cafeteria and library with a large biomedical journal collection. Research facilities include advanced genomics labs, a medical biotechnology centre and molecular biology research units.

SGPGIMS vs AIIMS Lucknow vs KGMU Lucknow

SGPGIMS, AIIMS Lucknow and King George’s Medical University (KGMU) are major medical institutions in Lucknow. Students comparing them usually look at course depth, research work, campus facilities and how seats are divided between All India Quota and state quota.

Among these three Lucknow institutions, SGPGIMS has the strongest listed NIRF Medical rank and NAAC accreditation. AIIMS Lucknow offers the benefit of central funding and the AIIMS name, while KGMU has a much larger clinical base with its 5,000 plus bed hospital and history since 1911.
