GSVM Medical College Courses and Fees

Medical, surgical, nursing and allied health education is available at GSVMMC. The MBBS course has 250 seats, while the postgraduate portfolio includes more than 20 MD/MS specialities. Five DM and M.Ch disciplines are offered at the super-specialty level. The following table gives the duration, entry requirement and fee for each programme.

Allied health choices include Medical Lab Technician, X-Ray Technician, Cardiology Technician, MRI Technician, Operation Theatre Technician, Anaesthesia Technician, Emergency and Trauma Care Technician, Optometry, Respiratory Therapy Technician, Occupational Therapy, Orthopaedic and Plaster Technician, Blood Transfusion Technician, and the Diploma in Audiology and Speech Therapy. The college also runs one-year PG Diploma programmes in Anaesthesiology and Child Health.

GSVM Medical College Admission Process

Selection for every clinical and para-clinical programme is based on the applicable national or state entrance process. GSVMMC has neither direct admission nor a management quota. Applicants receive seats according to merit through the relevant counselling authority.

MBBS Admission

General category applicants need at least 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12. The minimum PCB aggregate is 40% for SC, ST and OBC applicants. A valid NEET UG score is compulsory, and the selection sequence is as follows:

• Meet the NEET UG cutoff percentile prescribed by the NMC.
• For the 213 UP State Quota seats, register and fill choices through the UP DGME counselling portal.
• For the 37 All India Quota seats, take part in MCC counselling through its portal.
• Receive an online allotment according to NEET rank and the submitted choice order.
• Complete document verification at the allotted college.
• Pay the required fee to confirm admission.

For the General category in 2025, the final UP State Quota rank was 6,533, while the All India Quota closed at 12,533. Cutoffs for reserved categories were lower and differed by counselling round. Based on NEET UG 2026 difficulty and candidate-data trends, the projected General category State Quota closing rank for 2026 is 11,537.

MD/MS Admission

NEET PG determines entry to the MD and MS courses. MCC handles counselling for All India Quota seats, while UP DGME separately manages State Quota admissions. Before the internship deadline stated in the NEET PG notice, applicants must have earned a recognised MBBS degree and completed their internship.

• Obtain a valid NEET PG score and finish the MBBS internship before the counselling deadline.
• Use the UP DGME portal for UP State Quota counselling.
• Join MCC counselling for All India Quota seats.

DM/M.Ch Admission

Applicants seeking a super-specialty seat must qualify NEET SS and hold a recognised MD or MS degree in the relevant base specialty. GSVMMC provides DM training in Cardiology, Neurology and Cardiac Anaesthesiology. Its M.Ch options are Neuro Surgery and Cardiac Thoracic Surgery.

Nursing and Allied Health Admission

The UP State Nursing Council entrance process is used for B.Sc Nursing and P.B.B.Sc Nursing admission. M.Sc Nursing applicants need a B.Sc Nursing degree as well as the required state entrance qualification. ABVMU coordinates selection for allied health diplomas, which is based on Class 12 merit and a state-level process.

GSVM Medical College Placements and Career Outcomes

GSVMMC follows medical career pathways instead of conducting standard campus recruitment. The high patient volume at LLR Hospital gives students substantial clinical experience during internship and supports their preparation for NEET PG. Graduates commonly enter postgraduate study, public health service, hospital practice or medical research.

The main options after graduation include:

• NEET PG and MD/MS: This is the route chosen by most MBBS graduates. They commonly spend one to two years after internship preparing for NEET PG before securing postgraduate seats in government or private medical colleges across India.
• Government health service: Once the one-year bond has been completed, graduates may work in district hospitals, primary health centres and community health programmes managed by the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
• Private clinical work: After specialisation, graduates may join corporate hospitals or open clinics in Kanpur, Lucknow, Delhi-NCR and other cities.
• NEET SS and super-specialisation: MD/MS graduates can qualify for DM or M.Ch study. A super-specialty postgraduate institute established on the GSVMMC campus in 2021 provides the college's own DM and M.Ch training.
• Public health and research: Some graduates move into an MPH programme, a fellowship or a research role after their clinical education.

GSVM Medical College Rankings

In the 2023 NIRF assessment for medical institutions, GSVMMC secured a national position of 64. This result placed it among Uttar Pradesh's higher-ranked government medical colleges for that year.

GSVM Medical College Campus and Infrastructure

GSVMMC occupies an urban campus at Swaroop Nagar, Kanpur-208002. Its facilities include clinical departments, pre-clinical and para-clinical science blocks, allied health training units, a nursing college building, and housing for students and faculty. Trees, pathways and garden spaces add green areas within the city campus.

Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, also known as Hallet Hospital, is the principal teaching hospital. Its 1,235 beds support general medicine, surgery, obstetrics, paediatrics and specialty services. The hospital receives tertiary referrals from the Kanpur division, Bundelkhand and nearby districts of Uttar Pradesh. In 2021, a Super-specialty Postgraduate Institute opened on campus to expand care and training in Cardiology, Neuro Surgery and connected fields. The wider GSVMMC campus network also contains oncology and cardiology institutes.

Separate hostels are provided for boys and girls, with charges of INR 1,200 to 3,600 per month. Other student facilities include a library, canteen, sports areas and internet access.

GSVM Medical College vs MLN Medical College vs SN Medical College

Students considering government medical colleges in central or western Uttar Pradesh often compare GSVMMC with Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj and Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra. Each institution is government-run, affiliated with ABVMU and recognised by the NMC. All three admit MBBS students only through NEET UG and follow comparable government-set fee structures.

Among these three colleges, GSVMMC had the strongest NIRF result in 2023. Its Kanpur location also connects graduates with the city's industrial and healthcare economy. SN Medical College, founded in 1854, has the longest history and is among India's oldest medical colleges. MLN Medical College serves the Prayagraj, formerly Allahabad, division, a major education centre in Uttar Pradesh. The three institutions offer similar government-fee medical education and clinical training, unlike the higher-fee model common at private medical colleges in the state.
