Bharathiar University School of Distance Education (BU-SDE) was established in 1991 and is accredited by UGC-DEB and UGC-DEC. Located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, it offers UG, PG, Diploma, PG Diploma and certificate programs, under diverse disciplines like management, arts, science and commerce.

The two-year MBA program at BU-DSE is highly popular. The total course fee is approximately INR 60,000. Applicants must graduate with 50% from a recognized university. Admission is done based on merit scores.

Bharathiar University Distance Education Admissions 2025

All candidates applying to BU-SDE should have qualifications and certificates from UGC-recognized institutes.

The application form has to be submitted in offline mode only. It can be downloaded from the university’s official website. It can also be collected in person or via post.

The university offers an MBA, MCA, MCom, M.Com, MSW, MSC and MA in distance mode. Admission to these courses is based on the merit of recent qualifications.

The university also provides education in online mode.

To provide quality education, the university has approved LSCs or Learner Support Centers to enrol students into various courses. Personal Contact Classes are held on their premises for hands-on, computer-oriented training.

Ques. Will Bharathiar University School of Distance Education provide study materials to students?

Ans. Yes, study materials will be provided to the students. They include:

  • e-Tutorials (Video and audio content)
  • e-Content (Books, presentations, etc.)
  • e-Learning Content (Textbooks in PDF Form)
  • Discussion Forums to clarify doubts with faculty

Ques. Are classes conducted in online mode or offline mode?

Ans: The classes are in online mode. However, PCP classes are held at Learning Support Centres in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. These classes will be scheduled on the basis of student strength.

Ques. Is there any regional centre for offline classes?

Ans. Bharathiar University has established Spot Admission Centers for various programmes. They also conduct Personal Contact Classes to provide theory and practical classes by experienced teachers.These classes are held in offline mode. 50% attendance for practical classes is compulsory.

Ques. Does your open university track attendance for online classes?

Ans. BU-SDE tracks attendance according to university norms.

Ques. Any reservation criteria in terms of admission, fee, scholarship?

Ans. There is no reservation criteria about fees and admission. The institute does not provide any kind of scholarship.

Ques. How & when does the university declare the exam date?

Ans. Exams are conducted as per UGC Regulations/University Norms and Indian Judiciary, bi-annually. For Academic Year Batch, the exams will be conducted in May. Exams will be conducted in December for the Calendar Year Batch. For Distance Learning, The exam centres will be available in places other than Coimbatore and will be decided during the examination process. Students can choose an exam centre while applying for the exam. For Online programs, the classes and exams both will be conducted online.

Ques. What are the criteria for the semester exam?

Ans. For distance learning, the student must have a minimum of 75% attendance in the program-specific Personal Contact Programme classes and lab components (each programme) to appear for the End-Semester exams.

Ques. What is the process of reappearing and what's the fee? In case of any ambiguity in the result or scorecard, how can students address them?

Ans. Students can apply and appear for improvement in one or more theory papers within one year after the completion of the course. There is a one-time restriction on this. The fee for this is Rs.500/- per paper, in addition to the regular examination fee.

Provision for re-totaling and revaluation is available for all courses. The application for the same should be made within 7 days of receiving the Statement of Marks. Application forms for revaluation and re-totaling can be downloaded from the University Website.
