University of Madras PhD Fees 2026

University of Madras offers Ph.D. programmes in two modes, namely, Ph.D. Full-Time and Ph.D. Part-Time. The course is offered for a duration of minimum three years and a maximum period of six years. UNOM PhD Psychology is the most popular course among students. Admission to the Ph.D. programme is through an Entrance Test conducted by the University.

The eligibility criteria required for admission to PhD are as follows:

  • Candidates should have completed a PG degree after completing UG degree in the format 10+2+UG Degree (3 or more years) or 11+1+ UG Degree.
  • Candidates shall have a PG degree from a UGC recognized University in India.
  • Candidates should have obtained at least 55% marks or grade B.
  • Candidates with PG degrees from other Universities shall obtain eligibility certificate from the University of Madras.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade is allowed for those belonging to SC/ ST/ Differently-abled or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991.

Note: For PhD course completion, one year exemption is granted to candidates admitted after successful completion of M.Phil. programme.
