The University of Madras admits students based on merit or entrance exams.

Admission to UG courses is based on merit in the qualifying exam while PG admissions are offered on the basis of the entrance exam conducted by the university.
Yes, Madras University has a minimum aggregate score of 50% for admission to a Master of Arts (M.A.) program. Indian applicants must have a minimum of 50% in their undergraduate degree from a UGC-accredited university. NRI applicants must have a graduation degree from an internationally recognized university.
For certain courses, a specific subject background may be required. For example, for an MTech course, applicants must have an MA/MSc with Geography or BE course in Civil Engineering or any IT-related field from any recognized institution with at least 50% aggregate marks.
