Alagappa University Admission Dates 2027

Alagappa University admits many PG students through TANCET, the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test conducted by Anna University for the Tamil Nadu government. The 2027-28 admission process is expected to begin with TANCET 2027 in February to March 2027. Ph.D admission follows a separate schedule released through the university portal, usually in two rounds each academic year.

Alagappa University Courses and Fees

Alagappa University offers more than 156 programmes at UG, PG, M.Phil, Ph.D, Diploma, Certificate, and Distance Education levels. Its state university fee structure keeps PG study affordable for many students in Tamil Nadu.

MBA students can choose from Marketing Management, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, International Business, Logistics Management, Hospital Management, Tourism Management, Banking and Insurance, Corporate Secretaryship, Disaster Management, Global Finance, Systems Management, and other areas. The M.Sc group includes core science subjects along with Nano Sciences and Technology, Oceanography and Coastal Area Studies, Fisheries, and Energy Science.

The CDOE distance education wing offers another group of courses such as B.Com, BA, MA subjects, MBA, and PG Diplomas, usually at fees below the regular mode. PG Diploma fees start at INR 3,450 for Yoga and go up to INR 5,650 for management-related diplomas.

Alagappa University Admission Process

Alagappa University has two main study modes: regular department-based courses on campus and distance programmes through CDOE. The admission method changes with the course and mode.

PG Programmes on Campus (M.Sc / MBA / MCA / M.Com / M.Ed)

For most PG courses, students need TANCET, which means Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test.

• Eligibility: Relevant bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% aggregate, or 45% for reserved categories
• Entrance: TANCET score, with the exam conducted by Anna University in February to March each year
• Selection: Merit rank prepared from TANCET score and graduation marks

Ph.D Programmes

The university holds Ph.D admission twice a year through its own research entrance examination.

• Eligibility: PG degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks
• Selection: Alagappa University Ph.D Entrance Test followed by an interview
• Ph.D subjects: More than 15 disciplines, including Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Management, and English
• Entrance exemption: Candidates with UGC-NET or CSIR-NET qualification may not have to take the university entrance test

Distance Education (CDOE)

The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), approved by UGC-DEB, runs UG and PG courses in distance mode.

• Admission is direct through the CDOE portal and is based on qualifying degree marks
• The mode suits working professionals and students who cannot attend regular classes
• Distance programmes are offered in January and July sessions

Alagappa University Placements

Alagappa University mainly works as a research and postgraduate university. Its placement cell conducts recruitment support for MBA, MCA, M.Sc, and related professional courses through industry interaction, career workshops, and campus drives.

MBA and MCA students receive the most structured placement support. Management recruiters come from banking, IT services, logistics, retail, and consulting. Technology companies in South India recruit students from M.Sc Computer Science, IT, and AI/Data Science.

Alagappa University is based in Karaikudi, in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu. Karaikudi is closely linked with the Nattukotai Chettiars community. Alagappa University, Bharathiar University, and Madurai Kamaraj University are state universities in Tamil Nadu.
