Bharathiar University is inviting applications for PhD Admissions (Full-Time / Part- Time) 2024. Candidates can apply online through the BU Coimbatore admission portal before December 31, 2024. The application fee is INR 1000 for the unreserved category and INR 500 for SC / ST category candidates along with the category certificate.

BU Coimbatore PhD Eligibility

• Candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent degree from any Indian or Foreign educational institution with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale.
• Candidates who have cleared the MPhil course work from any Indian or Foreign institution with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale are eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the PhD degree in the same Institution in an integrated program. A 5% relaxation of marks or its equivalent grade is provided to SC / ST / EWS / PwD / OBC-NCL category candidates.
• Any teacher with the minimum qualifications working as a teacher in the university / colleges affiliated with Bharathiar University or in any higher secondary school / middle school / polytechnics (only teachers of arts, science, and allied multidisciplinary subjects) within Tamil Nadu can register as a part-time PhD scholar. The teaching faculty from other states may be considered on a case-to-case basis.
• Any CA / Cost Accountant / CS and other professionals having a minimum of two years of experience after obtaining their professional qualification are eligible.
• Candidates having professional PG degrees are eligible only if they are from the research institutions: DRDO, NIT, CSIR, ICMR, DBT as well as research institutes recognized by Bharathiar University.

Note:

• Candidates registered for a part-time PhD program shall submit the certificate of their employment from the employer to the university every year.
• Exemption of one year from the minimum duration period is permissible in respect of candidates who possess an MPhil or MLitt, (in the relevant subject) at the time of registration.
• The woman candidates and persons with disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a relaxation of two years for PhD in the maximum duration. In addition, the women candidates may be provided maternity leave / child care leave once in the entire duration of PhD for up to 240 days.

BU Coimbatore PhD Admission Procedure

• The selection will be based on the Common Eligibility Test (CET) and an interview.
• Candidates who qualify for UGC NET-JRF / UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET / SET / GATE, DST-INSPIRE fellowship, DRDO / CSIR / ICMR / DBT scientists, Faculty of Air Force Administrative College, MPhil Candidates, teacher fellowships (like FIP and FDP) holders and candidates of foreign origin possessing prescribed qualifications shall be exempted from appearing for CET.
• CET consists of 50 MCQs of 1 mark each with no negative marks for wrong answers. The passing mark is 15 marks out of 50. The awarded marks in the CET are valid for one academic year and shall be used to register for the PhD program during July / December.
• Candidates who clear the CET will be called for an interview after the scrutiny of their application. The maximum mark for the interview is 10.
• The admission will be made based on the CET marks obtained in June 2024.
