BU-SDE Admission Dates 2026

Bharathiar University CDOE has two admission cycles every year: July, which is the main session, and January. Applications are open for the July/August 2026 session for UG and PG programmes. Most BU-SDE programmes do not require a separate entrance test. The application portal is active at sde.b-u.ac.in, and the application fee is INR 150 per programme.

BU-SDE Courses and Fees

BU-SDE offers UG and PG courses through ODL and Online modes. The total course fee ranges from INR 28,480 for MA and MCom programmes to INR 62,880 for MCA. The two-year B.Ed programme costs INR 42,000.

Students pay the fees semester by semester through the online admission portal at sde.b-u.ac.in. Distance education programmes do not have a management quota fee or a separate fee based on entrance examination scores.

BU-SDE Admission Process

Admission to BU-SDE is based on the marks and eligibility documents of the qualifying examination. Students complete the application online, upload the required marks statements or degree documents, and pay the application fee of INR 150. No GD/PI or entrance test is held for any BU-SDE PG programme.

UG Admission (BA, BBA, BCom)

For BA, BBA and BCom, students must have passed 10+2 from any recognised board. Admission depends only on qualifying examination marks, and the university does not conduct an entrance test.

• Eligibility: Pass in 10+2 from a UGC-recognised institution
• Process: Apply online at sde.b-u.ac.in, upload the qualifying marks statement, and pay the application fee of INR 150
• Merit cutoffs: Candidates who meet the eligibility rules can get admission within seat limits. Most UG programmes do not prescribe any minimum percentage other than a pass mark.

B.Ed Admission

For B.Ed admission through BU-SDE, applicants need a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university with at least 50% marks. They must also have studied at least two school subjects at the UG level. The B.Ed programme is offered in ODL mode for 2 years.

PG Admission (MA, MCom, MSc, MSW, MBA, MCA)

PG applicants need a relevant bachelor’s degree. MBA accepts any bachelor’s degree with 50% aggregate marks. MCA also requires Mathematics at the 10+2 level or at the UG level. For MSc courses, the bachelor’s degree must be in the related discipline.

• Eligibility: Relevant bachelor’s degree from a UGC-recognised university
• Minimum marks: 50% for MBA and B.Ed, and pass marks for MA and MCom
• Process: Submit the online application at sde.b-u.ac.in, upload the degree certificate and marks sheets, and pay the application fee
• No GD/PI or entrance test is conducted for any BU-SDE PG programme

Graduates from any year of passing and working professionals can apply. BU-SDE does not set any age limit for admission.

BU-SDE Rankings

BU-SDE is not ranked separately by NIRF because it is the distance and online education division of Bharathiar University. The rankings listed here are for Bharathiar University, which awards the degrees and controls academic standards, recognition and degree validity for BU-SDE.

BU-SDE degrees are awarded by Bharathiar University and follow UGC-DEB guidelines. Employers and higher education institutions in India recognise UGC-DEB-approved distance education degrees at par with degrees earned in regular mode.

BU-SDE Campus and Infrastructure

BU-SDE functions from the Bharathiar University campus in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The main campus houses the CDOE administrative block, the study centre coordination office and examination centres. Bharathiar University has 39 departments along with library and research facilities, which CDOE students can access through designated channels.

Study material is supplied in both print and digital formats. Online learners use the CDOE online portal for course content, assignment submission and examination registration. ODL students get support through Learner Support Centres (LSCs) in Tamil Nadu and other states for contact sessions and examination help. Students do not have to move to Coimbatore for the full duration of their course.

BU-SDE vs Tamil Nadu Open University vs Annamalai University Distance Education

Students looking for distance education in Tamil Nadu often compare BU-SDE with Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) and Annamalai University Distance Education (AUIDE). All three providers have UGC-DEB approval, but they differ in institution type, delivery format and programme range.

BU-SDE is part of a NIRF-ranked state public university with NAAC A++ accreditation. TNOU works as a dedicated open university for distance learners and has a wider study centre network across Tamil Nadu. AUIDE at Annamalai University has run distance education programmes in India for many years.
