DSPMU Courses and Fees

More than 100 programmes are available across arts, science, commerce, management, law, education and performing arts. Government-aided humanities and science courses have particularly low fees, placing DSPMU among Jharkhand's lower-cost universities of comparable standing. For General category students, the three-year BA Honours fee starts at INR 13,640. Core science M.Sc fees start at INR 4,066 for two years, while MBA and the listed professional postgraduate courses cost INR 1.06 Lakhs in total.

These are total programme fees for the General category. For MBA, SC/ST students pay INR 1.05 Lakhs; MCA, LLM and MHA follow the same category-wise fee structure.

Dedicated BA and MA degrees in several Jharkhand tribal languages are available at only a few Indian universities. DSPMU's courses in Santali, Mundari, Kharia, Khortha, Kurmali, Kurux and Nagpuri serve students from the state's tribal communities. Santali uses its own script, Ol Chiki. This breadth of language study is difficult to find at other institutions.

DSPMU Admission Process

The admission route depends on the degree. DSPMU participates in CUET, with CUET-UG used for most undergraduate courses and CUET-PG for postgraduate courses such as MA, core science M.Sc and M.Com. Management, law and research programmes have separate entrance or interview requirements. The main 2026-27 UG and PG admission cycle has concluded. For the 2027-28 session, CUET registration is expected in January to February 2027; this remains an expected window.

Entrance Routes and Basic Requirements

BA, B.Sc and B.Com Honours

NTA conducts CUET-UG for admission to these programmes. General category applicants need at least 50% in 10+2 from a recognised board. Students in the SC, ST, OBC and EWS categories may receive a relaxation under Jharkhand's rules.

1. Complete CUET-UG registration through the NTA portal.
2. Take the examination in the domain subjects relevant to the chosen degree.
3. Check DSPMU's subject-wise selection lists, which use CUET scores.
4. Complete document verification and pay the required fee to confirm admission.

BBA, BJMC and B.Ed

Selection for these professional undergraduate programmes may use CUET-UG, a state entrance examination or a university entrance test. A graduation degree is an additional requirement for B.Ed. For BJMC, selection generally considers CUET performance in language and general aptitude.

MA, M.Sc, M.Com and MBA

For MA and core science M.Sc, CUET-PG selection relates to the subject studied during graduation. Applicants with stronger scores in the relevant CUET-PG subject receive priority in the merit lists. M.Com also uses CUET-PG, while MBA applicants need a valid CAT, MAT or XAT score.

• MA applicants must hold a BA or equivalent degree, have studied the relevant subject at undergraduate level and have at least 50% marks.
• M.Sc applicants need a B.Sc in which the relevant science subject was studied as a principal or subsidiary subject.
• MBA applicants may graduate in any stream, but must have 50% marks and a valid CAT, MAT or XAT score.

DSPMU Cutoffs

The following CUET scores are indicative 2026 cutoffs for General category applicants. Each figure relates to a specific Honours programme.

DSPMU Placements

Final-year students in management, IT and commerce receive campus recruitment support through DSPMU's Training and Placement Cell. Recruitment is most active for MBA, MCA, BBA and B.Sc Computer Science/IT students. TCS, Infosys, Wipro, ICICI Bank and Tech Mahindra are among the major recruiters.

LPA means lakhs per annum. Typical annual salary ranges and career options differ by programme.

Many humanities and science graduates prepare for Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), UPSC and banking examinations, or pursue school and college teaching. Graduates in tribal languages also find work in Jharkhand's government language and cultural departments, tribal welfare programmes and education.

DSPMU Rankings

DSPMU takes part in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Its University category position for 2024 is shown below.

DSPMU has NAAC accreditation with an A Grade. Its university ranking is not listed in the official NIRF 2025 results. The 201-300 band in 2024 places it in the middle range of state universities nationally. It is also a prominent higher education institution in Jharkhand.

DSPMU Campus and Infrastructure

Morabadi, a central part of Ranchi, houses DSPMU's 110-acre campus. Department buildings serve arts, science, commerce, management and law. Students have access to a central library with digital resources, computer laboratories, a gymnasium, sports grounds and an auditorium.

Science research departments include faculty working in botany, geology, environmental science and microbiology. These fields connect with Jharkhand's mineral resources and varied ecology. Facilities for performing arts support Music, Visual Arts and Kathak Dance programmes.

Eligible students can apply separately for campus hostel accommodation, although places are limited. Road transport connects the university with Ranchi city. Ranchi airport is 12 km away, and Ranchi railway station is within 5 km of the campus.

DSPMU Scholarships

State and central government schemes provide scholarships and fee concessions for eligible SC, ST, OBC and economically weaker section students at DSPMU. Since many courses have low base fees, this support can cover a substantial part or all of the fee.

Scheduled Tribe students from Jharkhand can also receive higher education support through special Tribal Sub-Plan scholarships. The Jharkhand Tribal Welfare Department administers these schemes for tribal communities.

DSPMU, Ranchi University and Central University of Jharkhand Comparison

Students considering universities in Ranchi often compare DSPMU with Ranchi University and the Central University of Jharkhand. Ranchi University is the older, larger institution and affiliates colleges. The Central University of Jharkhand receives central funding and has a competitive admission process.

DSPMU's NAAC grade is higher than Ranchi University's, and it offers a wider choice of tribal and regional language courses. The Central University of Jharkhand has a stronger national ranking profile, with more competition for admission. DSPMU suits students seeking low-cost university study in Ranchi with varied subject choices, particularly tribal languages and performing arts.
