How Admission Works at MAHGU

The course determines whether students enter through qualifying marks, MAHGEE or an accepted external entrance score. Direct selection is the main route for several undergraduate courses, while some programmes also use interviews, portfolio reviews or group discussions.

  1. Apply online for the chosen programme through the university's admission portal.
  2. Take the required entrance examination or seek direct admission using qualifying marks, where that route is available.
  3. Complete the selection stage, which may involve a merit list, entrance-score shortlisting, an interview, a portfolio review or a group discussion, depending on the course.
  4. Present the required documents for verification.
  5. Pay the programme fee to complete admission.

Entry Routes by Programme Group

Each programme group has its own selection requirements. The main routes are listed below.

Programme GroupSelection Requirements
BA / B.Sc / B.Com / BBA / BCASelection through MAHGEE or Class 12 merit; at least 45% in the qualifying examination
B.Pharm / D.PharmaMAHGEE score in PCB or NEET state rank
B.Des / BFA / BPA / BJMCClass 12 marks followed by an interview or portfolio assessment
LLB / BA+LLB / B.Com+LLBMAHGEE or CLAT score

MA / M.Sc / M.ComA relevant bachelor's degree with 45%, plus MAHGEE PG
PhDA master's degree with 55%, plus the MAHGU PhD Entrance Test

BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA and BCA

For general-category applicants, the basic undergraduate requirement is a recognised board's Class 12 qualification with at least 45% aggregate marks. Selection usually depends on academic merit, although MAHGEE is used for selected courses.

  • MAHGEE is especially relevant to B.Pharm, BCA and BBA (Hotel Management) applicants.
  • Students applying for BA, B.Sc or B.Com can seek direct admission with 45% or more in Class 12, without taking MAHGEE.
  • After applying online, students are shortlisted through qualifying marks or MAHGEE results. Document checks and fee payment follow.

LLB and Integrated Law Degrees

Applicants can use either CLAT or MAHGEE results for law admission. BA+LLB and B.Com+LLB require at least 45% in Class 12. For the 3-year LLB, students need a completed graduation degree with 45%.

B.Pharm and D.Pharma

Physics and Chemistry, together with Biology or Mathematics, are required at Class 12 level for B.Pharm. Selection accepts MAHGEE (PCB) results or a NEET state rank. D.Pharma applicants must have studied PCB in Class 12 and secured at least 45% marks.

MBA and MCA

A bachelor's degree with at least 50% and a valid CAT, MAT or MAHGEE PG score are required for MBA admission. Shortlisted applicants then attend a group discussion and personal interview. MCA eligibility is a bachelor's degree with Mathematics and 50% aggregate marks.

MAHGU Placement Results and Recruiters

The placement cell helps students connect with employers in corporate services, hospitality and agribusiness. MAHGU, established in 2016, reports its own placement outcomes. These figures have not been independently verified by NIRF, a government body or an independent audit.

Before choosing a programme, students should ask the placement cell for branch-specific results and clarification of the university's self-reported placement figures.

For 2024, the university reported an 80% placement rate across all graduating programmes. The reported salary outcomes were INR 11.8 LPA at the highest end and INR 5 LPA on average. LPA means lakhs per annum.

Hotel and hospitality graduates find work in Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun, as well as hotel chains elsewhere in India. Graduates of Agriculture and Forestry commonly seek government jobs through UKPSC or Central government services.

A substantial number of graduates choose further study or prepare for UKPSC, SSC and banking examinations instead of taking a job immediately through campus recruitment.

MAHGU Campus Facilities and Location

Dhair Gaon places MAHGU in Uttarakhand's Garhwal Himalayan region, 160 km from Dehradun and 130 km from Rishikesh. Its Pauri Garhwal campus has a pollution-free natural setting. The remote hill location offers a quiet study environment with fewer distractions, while the surrounding ecosystem supports learning in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Forestry and Yoga.

The central library serves all academic fields through more than 60,000 volumes, digital journals and electronic resources. Practical teaching takes place in dedicated Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer, Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical laboratories.

Male and female students have separate on-campus hostels. Accommodation and mess bills are charged in addition to programme fees. Students also have access to an auditorium for seminars, academic gatherings and cultural activities, sports facilities, a canteen and medical services. Key campus buildings have Wi-Fi. University transport links the campus with Pauri town and nearby areas.

MAHGU Scholarships and Financial Support

Financial support includes university merit awards linked to entrance performance and academic results. MAHGU also helps eligible students enrol in central and state scholarship schemes, including national support for SC, ST, OBC and EWS students.

Among these institutions, MAHGU combines the widest programme range with the lowest fees, helping students from rural Garhwal access higher education. The Bhimtal campus of Graphic Era Hill University places greater emphasis on technology and management and benefits from recognition of the Graphic Era parent brand. Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University's position nearer Dehradun gives students better access to city infrastructure and placement opportunities. All three cater to the hill-district student population and offer admission based on merit.

Questions About Studying at MAHGU

Ques. Which authorities recognise MAHGU and approve its professional courses?

Ans. Recognition from UGC comes under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. PCI approval covers pharmacy courses, while BCI approval applies to law courses. Maharaja Agrasen Himalayan Garhwal University (MAHGU) was set up through Uttarakhand state legislation in December 2016.

Ques. How much does a complete B.Com degree cost, and how do other course fees compare?

Ans. Both B.Com and B.Com Hons cost INR 15,000 for the full 3-year course. A 3-year BA costs INR 30,000, while BCA and BBA each cost INR 25,000. The full 4-year B.Pharm fee is INR 1,20,000. These charges are among the lowest in Uttarakhand's private-university sector.

Ques. Can students live on campus, and are living costs included in tuition?

Ans. Separate hostels for male and female students are available at the Pauri Garhwal campus. Programme fees exclude hostel and mess charges, which are billed separately. Because travel can be difficult in this remote hill area, students coming from outside Pauri Garhwal are strongly advised to choose campus accommodation.

Ques. When is direct entry possible, and which programmes use entrance scores?

Ans. Applicants can enter through MAHGEE or qualifying-examination merit. For most BA, B.Sc and B.Com courses, a Class 12 score of 45% or higher allows direct application through the online portal without MAHGEE. B.Pharm, BCA and law courses use MAHGEE scores. MBA and MCA also accept CAT or MAT results, with a group discussion and personal interview round.

Ques. What employment outcomes did the university report for 2024?

Ans. The university's reported 2024 results show an 80% placement rate, a highest package of INR 11.8 LPA and an average package of INR 5 LPA. Havells, Hero MotoCorp, Deloitte and ITS Limited were among the main recruiters. These are the university's own reported figures. Many graduates instead continue their education or prepare for UKPSC, SSC and banking recruitment examinations.

Ques. Which subject areas distinguish MAHGU, and which conventional degrees attract the most students?

Ans. More than 120 programmes are available. Hospitality and Hotel Management, Agriculture, Yoga, Environmental Science and Design stand out because they connect with the Garhwal region's natural resources and tourism opportunities. Fisheries, Forestry and Sericulture also reflect the local hill ecosystem. Among conventional courses, BA, B.Com, BCA, MBA and MA have the highest enrolment.

Ques. What is MAHGU's position on NIRF participation and NAAC accreditation?

Ans. MAHGU has no current NIRF ranking. Established as a private university in 2016, it has yet to undergo NAAC accreditation or qualify for NIRF participation. Students seeking institutions with NIRF rankings and NAAC accreditation in Uttarakhand can consider Graphic Era University in Dehradun, UPES Dehradun and central universities such as HNBGU.
