What is M.Sc Horticulture?

• MSc Horticulture is one of the most awarded postgraduate programs in the plant science sector. 
• It deals with the science of plant cultivation and with the process of preparing the soil for the planting of seeds, tubers, and cuttings.
• The course is also related to the disciplines of plant propagation, plant cultivation, crop creation, plant breeding and genetic engineering, plant biochemistry, and plant physiology.
• The program provides in-depth knowledge of plant harvesting and vegetable cultivation, their management and processing, storage and packaging, etc.
• Some of its basic disciplines are Physiology, Ecology, Genetics, Crop rotation, etc.

M.Sc Horticulture Admission Process

The admission to MSc Horticulture is done mainly on the basis of marks acquired in the entrance test conducted by the admission authorities. However, some colleges provide admission solely on the basis of marks secured in graduation (Merit-Based).

The admission forms to MSc Horticulture for various colleges are released in the month of May/June. However, the dates have been deferred for the current academic year due to the COVID-19 crisis.

In most of the colleges/universities, the admission for MSc Horticulture is done only on a merit basis i.e. The candidates’ performance in the qualifying examination (Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent) is considered for admission.

M.Sc Horticulture Eligibility

The students are required to fulfil the below-mentioned criteria to get admitted to any college for MSc Horticulture:

• The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Science such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Botany, Biotechnology, or related courses from a recognized university.
• The candidate must have secured 50-60% marks in his/her graduation degree.
• The students of General Science can also apply for MSc Horticulture provided that they have to study two additional semesters for some course-related information.
• No special relaxation is provided to the reserved categories.

It is important to know that this eligibility criterion is not the same for all colleges and varies from one college/university to another.

M.Sc Horticulture Distance Education

• In distance mode of education, MSc Horticulture can take more than 2 years to complete depending on the student and the institution in which he/she is enrolled.
• Distance Education is advantageous for students who don’t have time to go to their college and the course fee is much less than the regular MSc Horticulture course.
• All the necessary study materials are provided to the students at their homes and the exam is conducted both in online and offline mode.
