National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the JEE Main 2025 tie-breaking criteria. Earlier, if more than one candidate scored the same mark, they were assigned different ranks based on their age or application number. However, now the rank assignment will solely depend on the candidate’s merit. If multiple candidates have the same marks, they will be assigned the same rank in JEE Main.

JEE Main 2025 registration started on October 28, 2024. Eligible candidates can apply online, on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in by November 22, 2024. Revised Tie-Breaking Criteria

In cases where two or more candidates have the same NTA score, candidates will be assigned higher ranks based on the following tie-breaking criteria:

• Higher score in Mathematics
• Higher score in Physics
• Higher score in Chemistry
• Lower attempted incorrect answers to correct answers ratio in all subjects
• Lower attempted incorrect answers to correct answers ratio in Mathematics
• Lower attempted incorrect answers to correct answers ratio in Physics
• Lower attempted incorrect answers to correct answers ratio in Chemistry
• If the tie is still there, the tied candidates will be assigned the same rank.

This change is seen as a move towards a more equitable evaluation, especially as the age criteria had previously led to debates about fairness among candidates of different age groups. Students will need to focus not just on achieving high overall scores but also on excelling in Mathematics and Physics, as these subjects will play a crucial role in tie-breaking scenarios.
