Likes
- The ambience of the college which is so serene and peaceful. The college is located at the river side of Teesta river between the beautiful mountains . Admist this nature in this campus you will never feel bored
- The gender ratio is quite nice as compared to other colleges and everyone is treated equally and no gender is given an upper hand or extra opportunity
Dislikes
- The connectivity issues . Since the institute is situated in the mountains, there is problem of transportation .
- There are frequent power cuts and also the network is not quite good often
Remarks :
The factors which lead me to choose SMIT over other colleges was first of all the affordablity and second was the serene and peaceful environment around this lustrous green campus situated admist these mountains. I got into this college through my jee percentile The other methods to apply for the same is MET exam and SMET exam. The level of exam is moderate and there is no interview round.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The reason why I chose this course was my love for computers . The college has a decent faculty where the professors are knowledgeable, and quite efficient in their work specially in the mechanical and CSE department. Maximum number of faculty members are highly educated having multiple degree and know the importance of teaching new age concept for real world problems and more application based learning.
Internships Opportunities :
No I have not as we can opt for one once we have completed the 4th semester But our college do offer a lot of intership under different companies. In the duration of the degree you have to complete twoini project and one major project We receive proper guidance for the projects and the project are always encouraged in the college to be something unique.
Placement Experience :
After the completion of 6 th semester the students are eligible for the placements. The college has a dedicated placement and intership cell to train students for the interviews and tests There is also a startup cell in the college for the interested students. The average package past year was 6 Lakhs per annum and highest packege received was 54 Lakhs per annum by Google. There is approximately 55 percent students who get placed in an average and out of the rest many go to study abroad for the masters . I plan too on going abroad for the masters after completing the degee
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fee structure is as follows: Yearly fee - 4.5 lakhs which breakdowns to tution fee of 3.2 lakhs which includes laboratory fee,examination fee etc. Then we have the caution deposit of 5000 ( one time, refundable ) ,mess fee - 86000 yearly, hostel fee - 47000 and 67000 for double sharing room and single sharing room respectively . A concession of 20 % is given for SC/ST category and management quota . Various scholarships scheme are provided by the college based on merit of board exam marks , jee percentile etc I received a scholarship of 40 % on tution fee based on my jee percentile. The list of scholarship is given on the website Being a sikkimese also gives a concession of about 20 to 40 percent .
Campus Life :
The campus life is great around here in this college as you will never get bored and tired of this place as there are various clubs here covering different genres, workshops are conducted and everyone is most welcomed to bring out their hidden talent . Two festival are organised every year one is Kalraav the biggest festival in Sikkim and second is tech Adrishta the technical fest .
Hostel Facilities :
Yes I have opted for hostel and mess food . The mess food is fine as compared to other colleges and the hostel facility is also quite decent where toh have two options one is double sharing room and other is single sharing room. Each room has two beds , two cupboards , two study table and a personal bathroom included If you rather choose to stay in a pg outside the campus that is also a good option as the place is quite affordable,decent , and specially safe for women.

Placements and job opportunities are given to students after their completion of internship some may get the opportunity in between their internship,like recently our department seniors were gone for their internship and they are receiving amount of stipend in their internship at around 7000 rupees which was good thing for them

The placements are not highlighted as most students apply for jobs in a wide range of off-campus sites. My plans after getting the degree is to clear NET and continue with my education as a PhD scholar.

No guarantees . There is no placement guarantee in our college if you pass you pass their is no guarantee that you'll get a job after the college i have seen my seniors driving taxi after college and I'm afraid

Although the college claims 100 percent placements. I have seen my seniors running and applying for job interviews here and there. However i feel only 50- 60 percent gets placed by the college campus interview. But also there are many opportunities outside the college so one doesn't have to worry for placements.

Yes we do have internship program. If you do diploma you will get one OJT that can vary upon the field of your interest such such you want to move to another location or not And if you are not diploma then you get one OJT plus last 9 months of internship then placement.

job and placements are on average side and if we look at roi of the college then i would say it cannot your first priority but the situations are changing and placement are getting better over the years.

So the University doesn't have any sort of Placement Cell however the student body has assured that they will make it work and resume it soon. But as of now not having Placement benefit is a disadvantage. However, if you're good enough to crack NET exams and some other entrances than even some of the private universities can take us into consideration. I'm planning to crack NET and continue with PhD if I get a chance otherwise I'll have to crack good amount of entrances.
