Remarks :

I chose the Chemistry Honors course at Dyal Singh College because of its affordability and the good teaching faculty of the college. After going through online reviews and the DU cutoffs of 2020, I decided that DSC is the best college that I can get and so, I decided to go for it. The admission process is the same as other DU colleges, that is - you have to appear for the CUET exam and must have chosen DU as a university of preference during form filling. There are no further interviews or group discussions involved in the process.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I opted for Chemistry Honors as I wanted to have good basic concept development in the subject in order to be able to pursue a PhD in Chemistry in the future. The course and the faculty have definitely helped me with that. The faculty is extremely skilled and helps you throughout your academic journey by any means they can. However, the way of teaching can vary from professor to professor, but overall, the teaching methods are good. The semester exams can be tough if you do not focus or remain absent in classes, so it is advised to be regular in lectures in order to attain good grades. With good preparation, you can easily attain an 8+ SGPA every semester.

Internships Opportunities :

There were not many internship opportunities available, so I could not get one. However, the internships available are mainly for laboratory assistants for professors or for PhD students working under them, and the task is to assist them in their research and lab work. The stipend provision completely depends on the professor whom you will be assisting, but in most cases, these internships are unpaid.

Placement Experience :

The employment opportunities provided by the college after this course are very poor as barely any companies visit the campus for recruitment of Chemistry Honors students. you have to apply off-campus if you wish to seek a job after the course. The companies that you can apply to are mainly edu-tech ones like BYJUs, Physics Wallah, etc. The roles can be like that of Subject Matter Experts, Tutors, Content Designers, and Question Curators for the subject. The packages are very low and are somewhat around 2.5 to 4.5lpa.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The year-wise fee of the course is Rs. 15,500, which includes Admission Fees, Lab Charges, Caution Money, and other miscellaneous expenses for 2 semesters. The course duration is 3 years but can be extended to 4 years. The fee for the complete course (3 years) is approximately Rs. 50,000. The fee for SC/ST/OBC/EWS category students is considerably less than that of General category students. DU Merit scholarships are available for General as well as other category students which can be availed easily.

Campus Life :

Priyadarshani is Dyal Singh College's annual fest which usually takes place around mid-March. There are a lot of events and competitions involved which bring the campus to life in those 2-3 days. The classrooms are good but some rooms (Bamboo Rooms section) require a lot of renovation. The labs are equipped with all the instruments required by you during the practicals. Library facilities are excellent as there are several copies of all the important books for our course. The library room is spacious as it can easily accommodate 100 students easily. Due to the presence of various sports grounds on the campus, the sports facilities and NCC is well developed. There are several societies based on different interests like Arts (JAMINI), Creative Writing (SPILLED INK), Gender Sensitization (VIKIRYA), and Photography (XPOSURE). Their recruitment takes place once or twice a year and you have to go through their specific recruitment drives in order to join a particular society.

Hostel Facilities :

There are no hostels available for boys or girls on campus. You have to take accommodation in nearby areas like South Extension or near Humayun Tomb. The rent can vary a lot but typically ranges between Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 10,000 per month. Since rent is high, it is best to opt for shared flats or PGs to manage the expenses.

Placement Experience :

The placement is good for students of commerce background and even many arts students get placement. But for science students, there are rarely any science background companies hiring as even as an intern. Many science students go for higher studies. So, Rarely science students get placement and if placed then not in company of science background.

Placement Experience :

Drc has a decent placement for bachelors students and cell is very active, invites companies like Amazon, Deloitte, ipac , accenture, etc and offers around 6-20 lac. But drc doesn't provide placements for master's students, though there are many external opportunities to grab in . Masters student do apply for internships in political and policy roles and even get placed in political consultancies and awarded with fellowships.

The placement cell is quite active. There are always placement and internship fairs every year and even other college students can join them. The placement recruiters are from top companies like Deloitte, KPMG, EY, etc. Although, not every one gets in these companies but then, there are other companies as well like Finshots, Voice Your Vichaar, etc. The average package is 3LPA and highest package is 8LPA.
