I was very interested in science and biology and wanted to pursue research. This is one of the most reputed and prestigious colleges in the country in this field and was a dream to get into. It's admission is done on the basis of the IAT examination that is required for all IISERs and for IISc. It requires a minimum of 90% in 12th boards CBSE but the cut off is lower in case of reservations. Cut off varies year to year depending on the ranks and amount of people opting for the college.
I chose this course as I was interested in the subject and wanted to pursue research. By having an integrated degree I was saving time on my masters and making great connections among top scientific minds of the country. The faculty is great and include few of the most respected people of their fields. They teach very well and are available to clear doubts in their office hour. They are also willing to help one with extra studies or internships and reading projects, either by offering their own guidance or by providing references. The term exams happen twice a semester, for the Mid semester and the End semester. They happen at almost the same time every year and are moderately difficult. There is relative grading and the questions require higher order thinking.
Yes I have held internship positions at both extrenal science publication firms and at the CDS department of IISc . Summer Internships are encouraged and may help one gain credits while winter insternships are allowed. One can also get an internship during the semester as a semester project that counts towards the credits.
Everyone who has passed all the courses is eligible to sit for placement. This highest oackage is 17.5 lpa while the average is around 11 lpa. Companies include banking and financial companies, data science companies dealing in AIML, pharmaceutical companies, consultancy firms and such. There are also a lot of professors who employ students as junior scientists in their labs.
The total fees are 63000 including hostel, medical insurance, tuition, library, examinations and transcripts. The mess does not charge fees but it's a pay per meal system where three amount you pay is decided based on what you eat. The fees for students under reservations are less.
The main fest on campus is Karavaan that usually happens in February or March for three days. The library is vast with a great collection of books and journals. One can also access many scientific papers using the library computers. All classrooms are smart classrooms with good furniture and temperature control. There is a building for sports and the gym with multiple sporting and indoor game amenities along with gym equipment. There are also various outdoor courts. There are also seperate dance rooms with mirrors and music rooms with instruments. There are a lot of clubs on campus, almost all student run. There are academic clubs like Science and Biology and clubs for higher order thinking of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Earth Sciences. Except that, there are cocurricular clubs like the art club, dance club, theatre club, music club, book club, literature club, film club, entrepreneurship hub, etc.,.
The food is mediocre to good with a lot if variety between the two caterers. The hostel is compulsory and its fees included in the structure. It is a decent sized double sharing room with seperate building for girls and boys. Each floor has washrooms and a common pantry area.
The placements & job opportunities in the campus placements is good in our college like honestly it is good and also it is reason for students to take admission because there are many company coming to college. The ground reality the percentage of students placed from this college is around 70% like the core branches students have higher placement rates and technincal branches placement rate is of around 70%-80% the core branches students also gets placed in tech. The main recruiters are TCS,ESDS,WIPRO,TECH MAHINDRA,INFOSYS,L&T and more. NVIDIA was also there but last year they banned the college because some students cheated in online interview.
I haven't reached my placement stage yet but from what I have seen the college doesn't wait until the final year to start preparing students. We have coding sessions, skills building workshops and career guidance from the beginning. Seniors also share their experiences which gives us a better idea of what to expect. I feel the college is helping us build the right foundation for internships and placements. At the same time, I think getting a good job also depends on how much effort we put into improving our own skills. So far I feel I am on the right track
no placement data is present now but many of students are working on their own projects and few are cracked the internships and now currently serving their period on the companies and it's really great opportunities.
The college does have a placement cell. It provides some in campus placements . Rarely 2% students get in campus placements. Rest have to find jobs pn their own. You wi have to do alot of interships and gain practical skills to be placed
Diffrent companies have different criteria, limited companies comes in campus such as bootcoding Pvt.Ltd , and some small companies arrived. Highest package giving by companies is 4 LPA lowest package is 3LPA and average package is 2.5LPA. about 20% of students got placed. Searching a job after my course computation.
The faculty members are supporting but inexperienced the experienced professionals have left the college long time ago. This is one of the old colleges in Pune. The semesters are generally proactive extracurricular activities are less and are given not much priority .
