After giving my 12th boards I chose to do B.Sc in Statistics. Ramnarain Ruia College is one of the Best colleges for this course in Mumbai. As Lockdown was Imposed in 2020 the admission process was online. Merit lists were based on 12th board marks. The Cut-off was quite high since it is a top college in Mumbai. After the merit list, an online Zoom call was organized for the selection of subjects, and the admission was processed. All documents were submitted online in PDF format and later verified offline.
I choose a Bachelor of Science in Statistics. Our 1st year and half of the second year were conducted through online classes. There were 2 semesters in one year, a total of 6 semesters in 3 years. In 1 year I had Physics, Maths, and Statistics as subjects, in 2nd year Physics was dropped. In the 3rd and Final year, Maths was dropped so the Major Subject was Statistics. The exams were quite hard as It's an Autonomous college affiliated with Mumbai University. Fees were around 8500rs per year.
I did not any for any internships . But many of my classmates did internships in various companies and institutes Like IISER Pune , Reliance, etc . As our subject had skills like data visualisation and sorting and Excel.
As it is more of plain science and arts college there aren't many placement opportunities that come in college. But you can get many internships from the help of teachers and professor's. Chemistry department has good amount of placement from Pharmacy backgrounds. After getting bachelor's degree most people go for a Master's degree.
Ramnarain Ruia College has one of the best social life among Mumbai colleges. 'Aarohan' is the name of the fest of Ramnarain Ruia College which is conducted around December and January. Various sports activities and tournaments are conducted in this period. The college has various teams of which you can be part like Team Security, Team Fine arts, Team Performing arts, etc. Hostel facility is not provided by the college, but there are various hostels around the college in the Matunga East area. There's a small canteen in college for snacks and light meals.
I haven't reached my placement stage yet but from what I have seen the college doesn't wait until the final year to start preparing students. We have coding sessions, skills building workshops and career guidance from the beginning. Seniors also share their experiences which gives us a better idea of what to expect. I feel the college is helping us build the right foundation for internships and placements. At the same time, I think getting a good job also depends on how much effort we put into improving our own skills. So far I feel I am on the right track
no placement data is present now but many of students are working on their own projects and few are cracked the internships and now currently serving their period on the companies and it's really great opportunities.
The college does have a placement cell. It provides some in campus placements . Rarely 2% students get in campus placements. Rest have to find jobs pn their own. You wi have to do alot of interships and gain practical skills to be placed
