UIT Shimla over NIT Hamirpur, worth it?

- SUPPORTIVE FACULTY:- most of the faculty is nice, they will help you in all the possible ways, and will guide you in every aspect.
- FREE TIME:- you will get a lot of free time so it's upon you how to utilise it
Dislikes
- Infrastructure:- there is actually very less in the terms of infrastructure, due to hilly regions it is difficult to build further infrastructure nearby
- Risky location to live in monsoons:- in the last monsoon season, shiva bawadi landslide (100m from uit) took lives of Director UIT along with around 10 others
- Very less opportunity:- there is very less which is being offered
Remarks :
A few of the reasons, why I left NIT Hamirpur (lower branch) for UIT (formerly UIIT) Shimla Computer Science Engineering are 1.) For the sake of the CS Branch 2.)A lot of free time 3.) Some Good faculty 4.) Ease to maintain CGPA The main reason for anyone to join engineering is placements and placement records of our college are average since a few students got placed in companies like Samsung R&D, HashedIn, Amazon, Paytm, etc in the past few years. While most the people can get placed with an average CTC of 2LPA to 4LPA The placements of the CS and IT departments are comparatively better than the rest of the branches. One plus point is that you will get a lot of free time in college so it's upon you how you utilize it. It's important to mention that students from our college have achieved 2-digit and 3-digit ranks in the GATE Exam including me. Drawbacks may include:- 1) poor infrastructure 2)no hostels 3)very less experienced faculty 4) pathetic labs 5) poor study env.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is not great, and most of the time the faculty assigned to that course seems like studying the subject for the first time, I choose computer science engineering due to my interest and future scope But don't expect anything from the faculty, There will be two exams per semester, mid-term and end semester but the main deciding factor will be the end semester examination only. There is no fee hike policy as of today but there are rumors that fees will increase from this session. The cost to study here is like around 5 lakhs fee to the college and remaining personal expenses including pg/room rent per month. Trust me that it might seem like the fee is only about 5 lakhs but in a place like Shimla, everything is overrated due to tourism, so the actual expenses for the 4 years would be around 12-13 lakhs Furthermore, there are many scholarship programs offered by the government and its associated organizations for single girls, SC/st, and EWS candidates.
Internships Opportunities :
The college offers nothing but I got an offer letter from a Shimla startup for a front end Intern but I did not opt for that Rather I did a few projects which were enough for me to justify my work in college Also in Shimla, you will get very less opportunities to even work, and even if you get it won't be possible for you to manage college and internship at the same time due to geographical reasons
Placement Experience :
College does not take any responsibility for internship /training/placements However, there are placement cells formed by some students and professors who ensure that at least you get an opportunity to enter into the industry. In the past students were placed in Paytm, Amazon, ZScalar, HashedIn, etc But this year maximum companies that recruited students were Mohali-based startups. On average one can expect a package of 2-5LPA, for CS and IT branches, For the rest of the branches, only god knows In my case, many of my batchmates got placed in decent companies but I have plans to do a master's from IIT. So I cracked the GATE Exam and will pursue higher studies
Campus Life :
Life at UIT will be stressful and boring because there is no proper infrastructure e.g. library with a seating capacity of just 38 students. Recently there have been some developments in amenities provided by the institute like LG LG-led smart board in every class, upgrading labs Etc but it will be not sufficient There is only one active club/association whatever you want to i.e. Engineering Technical Student Association ETSA, all the events including sports events are being organized by this only. So if you want to be a member of ETSA you need to win elections which are held yearly There is no hostel and a fun fact is that our college is itself one building of 4 floors In conclusion, I can only say that join this institute at your own risk I took the risk and somehow survived it but you will suffer a lot if you join, not academic suffering but existential suffering due to the geographical location of Shimla and extreme weather conditions sometimes.

Placements are decent. Eligibility is typically at CGPA 6.0 or higher. Recruiters include TCS, Infosys ,Oracle, Wellsfargo etc.Highest package this year reached around 3 crores per annum as it was a foreign offer.

I choose ba as I needed a bachelors degree to pursue llb . All the faculty members are highly qualified and well educated and every teacher has their own teaching method. The exams are conducted annually for BA which is not very difficult

placement are good many cse students have package in crores i think cse nad ece branch is good but other branch package is around 10 lakh if i would suggest students i suggest go for cse or ece branch because in the era of artificial intelligence nad machine learning these two branches are booming and the package are also best in these branches you can also try for gate exam after the civil mechanical or electrical you can get jib in public plus private jobs

The placement opportunities are given by institute. There is a placement committee. A few visited recruiters are ICICI,HDFC, DE Shaw, Deloitte, EY, etc. the average package of IIM sirmaur ranges around 14-15 LPA. All students get placed and is supported by institute.
