Placement and college life at IIT Jammu
Likes
- Placements are decent here, almost all students who work little hard for placements here gets placed. Also there is less strength in this college so at the time of placement there is less competition compares to other colleges.
- Infrastructure is good here, many modern technologies are installed like attendance are taken in face biometric, entry to all labs are with biometric, main gate have also biometric entry etc.
Dislikes
- campus is still under construction, there is also no separate building for each branch. And because of this size of college seems to be small, there is very less area for time spending.
- Since it is 3rd gen IIT, therefore alumni network is very low, that's why we didn't receive donations like old IIT's used to get and due to fund problem quality of fest gets reduced and we lag behind in many aspects that old IIT's don't.
Remarks :
First of all it is IIT college, so there is no doubt in academics, faculties are highly qualified , good infrastructure, good placements etc. Infrastructure is still under construction, limited alumni network, location is not metropolitan. Admission is done via JEE Advance . I prepared for JEE advance online and by solving previous year questions.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I choose mathematics and computing branch here which is somewhat similar to computer science because it is AI/ML oriented branch and i have interest in this field. Teachers are highly qualified , all have done their PhD in their specific field. Almost all faculties teaches very well, very few faculties are there who couldn't explain the concept in deep . In whole semester we have 4 exams called class test1 aka CT-1 , mid semester exam, CT-2, End semester exam. Other fees which is apart from tuition fees are gets hiked by approx7%. And cost to study here is almost 12-13 lakhs for B tech course which includes all the fees like hostel, mess , tuition fees etc. Two types of scholarships i.e. MCM(merit cum means, given to top 25% students of particular branch) and free messing. Both have their some eligibility criteria like parental annual income should be less than 4.5 lakhs. Family income --> 1-5 lakhs 33% tuition fees charged below 1 lakh, no tuition fees is charged.
Internships Opportunities :
No, I haven't opted for any internship right now because campus internship are given to 3rd year students and right now i am in 1st year. Many companies visited to our college for internship at the time of placement season and internship are given to students.
Placement Experience :
Eligibility criteria for placement depends on the company, majorly all companies asks for minimum CGPA of 7 or 7.5. Some past major companies which comes for recruitment are amazon, sprinklr, paytm, nvidia, ICICI bank, HDFC bank, maruti suzuki etc. According to 2023 data, highest package offered was 53 LPA, average package offered was 18 LPA, minimum package was 5 LPA. Percentage of students get placed in 2023 is 85%. My plans after getting the degree is to either works on corporate or to prepare for UPSC.
Campus Life :
There is one techno-cultural fest called ANHAD which helds on mid sem break of spring semester, one sports fest called PRAVAAH. There is one central library in college. Almost all types of sports are being played in this college, coaches used to come and gives training for particular games, there is one gym also. There is one NSS group called KRITASH which runs by students. Hostels are well made here, in 1st and 2nd year we use to get double sharing room in which we are provided with one bed, almirah, cupboard, table, chair. In 3rd year, we used to get single occupancy AC rooms. Charges for hostel is approx. 12-13k per semester. Coming to mess, we are being charged 22k per semester, food quality is decent here, edible but not top class.

Placements in our college are average only, not very high but not zero also. Few companies come every year for campus recruitment, like TCS, Wipro, Infosys and some local construction firms. They mostly offer roles like junior engineer, site supervisor or trainee. Highest package was around 8 LPA for IT profile, average goes between 3-4 LPA. Almost 50-60% students get placed from campus, rest students go for off campus or higher studies. Eligibility for placement is you need minimum 6.5 CGPA and no active backlogs, also they check communication skills in interviews. No big mass recruiters like in IITs, but still some opportunities are there if you prepare well. If not getting placed through campus, I plan to try off campus drives and also thinking to prepare for govt exams or maybe do M.Tech. College do conduct some training sessions and mock interviews but main thing depends on self preparation.

Here almost 95% students got placed.average salary is around 6-7 lpa.Companies like wipro,infuses,bhel visited here.my plan after degree is to do mtech from iits. Highest package is around 45 lakhs (off campus). On campus it is around 25 lpa.

I am always moved by my college’s course curriculum which is multicultural and gives students a wide range of choices. The courses are demanding but the lecturers are always ready to provide support and counsel. It is affordable to all through scholarships and fair fees.

Placement Experience :
The eligibility criteria for the placements of jobs was 65% in the grade card if graduation. The recruitment process was followed by a job examination and job interview. Cipla, SKIMS were some of the recruiters that visited the university and offered almost 15 jobs. The average package offered by the recruiters was 40-70 thousands per month. And the highest package offered by the recruiters was 1.1 Lakh per month. In this recruitment process almost 40% students got placements. I got a private job in a private pharmacy company. Now, I have chosen this job as my carrier after getting the degree.

Placement Experience :
There were no job or placement opportunities available and it didn’t bothered the college. The main aim of the students as well included to just pass the degree and get out of there. Faculties also discouraged about the job market scenario outside the college which alleviated the trouble.

Companies come for placement also they select students but most of time it sells based company not a product based company also they offer quit low packages. Most of students try off Campus Placement where they get some good offers. Average package is about 5-7 lakh
