GMC Goa Admission Process

Entrance examination scores decide admission to the medical programmes at GMC Goa. MCC handles All India Quota counselling, while the Directorate of Health Services, Goa manages the applicable state quota and allied health admission processes.

MBBS Admission

The MBBS intake consists of 200 seats. Goa state quota accounts for 85%, or 170 seats, and requires Goa domicile. MCC counselling fills the remaining 15%, or 30 All India Quota seats, without a domicile restriction.

  1. Complete 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. General category students need at least 50% aggregate, while SC/ST students need 40%.
  2. Be at least 17 years old on December 31 of the admission year.
  3. Obtain a valid NEET UG score.
  4. For a state quota seat, secure a domicile certificate from a competent Government of Goa authority and take part in counselling conducted by DHS Goa.
  5. For an AIQ seat, register for MCC central counselling. These 30 seats are available to students across India.

Competition for the state quota differs from that in larger states because Goa has a smaller population. All India Quota selection is more competitive and is based on the national NEET rank. Students should confirm the latest state counselling timetable with the Directorate of Health Services, Goa.

MD / MS Admission

Applicants to MD and MS programmes must qualify through NEET PG. GMC Goa has MD courses in 17 disciplines and MS courses in 5 surgical disciplines. Half of the postgraduate seats belong to the 50% All India Quota, for which NEET PG rank and MCC counselling apply. DHS Goa conducts counselling for the remaining 50% state quota.

  1. Hold an MBBS degree and meet the minimum aggregate required under NMC guidelines.
  2. Finish the compulsory one-year rotating internship.
  3. Qualify NEET PG and join the relevant MCC or DHS Goa counselling process.

DM / M.Ch and Allied Health Admission

Admission to DM and M.Ch requires the relevant MD or MS qualification, a valid NEET SS score, and MCC counselling. DHS Goa manages BPT, B.Optom, and B.Sc allied health selection through NEET UG scores or a merit-based route. MPT and MOT applicants may be selected through NEET PG (Physiotherapy), PGCET, or a direct institute entrance test.

GMC Goa Placements and Career Outcomes

GMC Goa does not organise conventional campus placements because it is a government medical college. After MBBS, graduates commonly prepare for postgraduate specialisation through NEET PG, enter Goa's government health services, or work in private hospitals in Goa and Mumbai.

Mumbai is about 10 hours by road from the college. This access, together with Goa's tourism-based economy, connects MBBS and BPT graduates with private hospital networks in Goa and the Western Maharashtra-Konkan belt. Those completing DM or M.Ch often take roles in large public and private hospitals across the region.
