SAU Admission Dates 2027

For Indian applicants, SAU uses CUET-UG scores for undergraduate admission and CUET-PG scores for postgraduate admission. Citizens of other SAARC countries follow the university’s separate entrance and admission route. The expected schedule for the 2027-28 cycle is given below.

SAU Courses and Fees

More than 35 programmes are available at undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, certificate, and diploma levels. SAARC member-state funding supports the university’s fee structure, and English is the teaching language for every programme.

Boys and girls can apply for hostel rooms at the Maidan Garhi campus. The hostel charge is up to INR 8,700 per month. Indian and other SAARC-country students follow the same fee structure, without a nationality-based difference.

SAU Admission Process

Indian students enter SAU through CUET-UG, CUET-PG, UGC-NET JRF, or the SAU PhD entrance route, depending on the course. Applicants from other SAARC countries use SAU’s international application and entrance system.

UG Admission (B.Tech, BCA, BA, BS, BBA+MBA)

1. Indian applicants must appear for CUET-UG for admission to an undergraduate course.
2. B.Tech applicants need Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12 and at least 50% aggregate marks.
3. SAU uses the relevant CUET-UG domain scores to prepare its merit list.
4. Shortlisted students complete document verification and enrolment.

Applicants from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the other SAARC member countries apply through SAU’s international portal at sau.int. They must take the SAU entrance examination prescribed for their chosen programme. Competition is high because each country has a limited number of seats.

PG Admission (MA, MBA, M.Sc, M.Tech, MCA, LLM)

Indian nationals are selected for postgraduate programmes through CUET-PG. A relevant bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate marks is required, while the minimum is 45% for SC/ST applicants.

• For MA Economics and MA International Relations, applicants need a bachelor’s degree in economics or any social science discipline.
• M.Sc Biotechnology requires a B.Sc in Life Sciences or a related field with 50%.
• LLM applicants must hold an LLB degree with 50%.
• MBA admission requires a bachelor’s degree in any subject with 50%.

1. Applicants take CUET-PG and submit their admission details to SAU.
2. The university draws up a merit list from CUET-PG scores.
3. Selected programmes also require a personal interview.
4. SAU sends admission offers to the final selected applicants.

The 2-year MA International Relations programme receives applications from across India and the SAARC region and is among SAU’s most sought-after courses.

PhD Admission

1. Applicants must hold a relevant master’s degree with at least 55% aggregate marks.
2. Selection is based on UGC-NET JRF qualification or performance in the SAU PhD Entrance Examination.
3. Citizens of other SAARC countries apply through SAU’s international research admission process.
4. Admitted research scholars may receive fellowships according to UGC norms.

SAU Placements and Career Outcomes

SAU’s academic focus covers social sciences, technology, and law. Its Training and Placement Cell at Maidan Garhi supports career paths in international bodies, research organisations, government ministries, policy think tanks, and private companies.

International Relations and Economics graduates move into civil services, diplomatic work, think tanks, multilateral institutions, and policy research. Technology students enter IT, software, startup, and research roles, while Biotechnology graduates work in pharmaceutical companies or continue research in national laboratories.

SAU’s connection with SAARC gives international students opportunities to build networks across South Asia. Indian students study in a multinational group and can take part in collaborative research under faculty members with international experience.

SAU Scholarships

SAU follows a scholarship policy revised in 2025. Support is available to both Indian students and citizens of other SAARC countries through contributions from the member states and the Government of India.

Students from other SAARC member countries receive major scholarship assistance in line with SAU’s aim of supporting affordable regional education. Eligible Indian students can apply for NSP assistance through scholarship.gov.in, while research students may use the relevant UGC fellowship schemes.

SAU Campus and Infrastructure

Since January 2023, SAU has operated from its permanent 100-acre Maidan Garhi campus at Gaushala Road, New Delhi 110068. The site is in South Delhi near the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road corridor.

The campus contains academic blocks for every school, a central library offering access to international databases, computer laboratories for B.Tech and MCA students, science laboratories for Biotechnology and other M.Sc courses, and research facilities for PhD scholars. SAU also runs a virtual campus for online BCA and other distance-learning courses.

Residential facilities include separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls. Students also have access to a health facility, guest house, cafeteria, and sports facilities. Learners from all eight SAARC countries form the campus’s multinational residential community.

SAU vs JNU vs Jamia Millia Islamia

Students considering postgraduate study in social sciences and humanities in New Delhi may compare SAU with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). All three are government-affiliated institutions offering CUET-PG-based MA study in areas such as Economics, International Relations, and Social Sciences.

JNU has an A++ NAAC grade, a strong NIRF position, and a research-intensive setting for postgraduate social science study. JMI is a minority institution known particularly for architecture and fine arts. SAU differs through its multinational SAARC student group, internationally experienced faculty, and curriculum centred on South Asia. These features are especially relevant to students interested in international relations and regional studies.
