GNLU Admission Dates 2027

GNLU has closed admissions for the 2026-27 session. For the 2027-28 batch, UG law and LLM admissions will move through CLAT 2027, while MBA admission will use CAT 2026, CMAT 2027, or MAT 2027 scores.

GNLU Courses and Fees

GNLU runs 5-year integrated law degrees, a 1-year LLM, a 2-year MBA, Ph.D. programmes in 9 disciplines, and short diploma options. Programme fees range from INR 10,000 to INR 12.22 Lakhs. The five UG law streams have the same fee.

For UG students, the annual all-inclusive fee is INR 2,72,000. It includes tuition of INR 1,32,000, infrastructure and academic facilities charges of INR 52,000, mess charges of INR 42,000, and hostel charges of INR 24,000. Electricity is charged separately as per actual use. A one-time first-year charge of INR 17,000 is part of the first-year total.

GNLU Admission Process

GNLU fills its 5-year UG law seats through CLAT and the centralised counselling process of the Consortium of National Law Universities. The university does not offer direct admission or a management quota. Selection is based on merit and counselling.

5-Year Integrated UG Law Programmes

For UG law admission, students need 10+2 with at least 45% aggregate marks. SC, ST, and PwD applicants need 40%. A valid CLAT (UG) score is compulsory. The upper age limit is 20 years as of July 1 of the admission year, and it is 22 years for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

• GNLU total UG seats: 193 seats in each batch across the five integrated law streams.
• 25% horizontal reservation is available for Gujarat domicile students across categories.
• 30% horizontal reservation is provided for female candidates, and 5% is provided for PwD candidates.
• Supernumerary seats are available over and above the 193-seat intake: 2 UG seats for J and K residents and 5 UG seats for North East India candidates.
• NRI candidates must use their CLAT rank and submit a separate expression of interest form.
• Foreign nationals do not need CLAT and can apply directly to GNLU.

The usual CLAT closing rank range for GNLU General category UG seats has been 4,000 to 5,500. Gujarat domicile seats usually close at slightly lower ranks within the reserved pool.

LLM Admission

GNLU admits students to its 1-year LLM through CLAT PG. The available specialisations include constitutional law, criminal law, intellectual property rights, international law, and business law. Students must have an LLB or an equivalent degree with the minimum percentage mentioned in the yearly admission notice. Supernumerary seats include 1 seat for J and K candidates and 2 seats for North East India candidates.

MBA Admission

The MBA in Financial Management and Business Laws uses CAT, CMAT, or MAT scores. Shortlisted students then appear for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds conducted by GNLU. This process is handled by GNLU and is separate from Consortium counselling. The MBA total fee is INR 3.36 Lakhs, making it one of the most affordable MBA options at a national law university.

Step-by-Step Admission Process

1. Apply for the required entrance exam: CLAT for UG law, CLAT PG for LLM, CAT/CMAT/MAT for MBA, or the GNLU research aptitude test for Ph.D.
2. Meet the eligibility rules for the chosen programme.
3. Take part in the required counselling or university-level selection process.
4. For MBA, attend the GNLU GD and PI rounds after shortlisting.
5. Complete seat allotment, document verification, and fee payment as per the admission schedule.

GNLU Cutoffs

GNLU UG law allotment through CLAT usually needs a strong rank. For General category UG seats, past closing ranks have mostly stayed in the 4,000 to 5,500 range.

GNLU Placements and Career Outcomes

In the 2024 final placement season, GNLU Gandhinagar reported a median package of INR 18 LPA for the UG batch. The highest package stood at INR 26 LPA. Out of 181 eligible UG students, 175 received offers, giving the batch a placement rate of 96.7%.

Recruiters at GNLU include Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Trilegal, Khaitan and Co., IndusLaw, AZB Partners, and Argus Partners. GNLU also holds a Day 0 process for 5 to 6 tier-1 law firms each year. A recent batch received 40 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs). Students also move into judicial services, government legal roles, and LLM programmes abroad.

GNLU’s location in Gandhinagar gives students access to Gujarat’s corporate law, infrastructure financing, and regulatory compliance ecosystem, including roles linked to Gujarat-based companies and PSUs.

GNLU Rankings

GNLU moved up by 3 positions in the NIRF Law 2025 list. It rose from rank 8 in 2024 to rank 5 in 2025, with a score of 76.23.

GNLU Campus and Infrastructure

GNLU’s main campus is spread over more than 50 acres in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. Ahmedabad city centre is 20 km away. The campus is fully residential and has separate hostels for male and female students. Hostel stay is compulsory for most students during the initial years.

The academic setup includes air-conditioned classrooms with projectors, computers, and Wi-Fi. Students also use a library with law journals and digital databases, computer labs, a moot court room, and a sports complex. GNLU also has a separate campus at Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, with the same fee structure.

Hostel and mess costs are included in the annual programme fee instead of being billed separately. GNLU vs WBNUJS Kolkata vs HNLU Raipur

GNLU, WBNUJS Kolkata, and HNLU Raipur are all placed in the top 10 of NIRF Law 2025. All three take UG law admissions through CLAT and attract a similar group of law aspirants. Their main differences are rank, city, fee level, cutoff range, and placement profile.

WBNUJS has a slightly higher NIRF Law 2025 rank and a tighter CLAT closing rank than GNLU. Placement outcomes at WBNUJS and GNLU are broadly comparable. GNLU stands out for access to Gujarat’s corporate, finance, and regulatory network. HNLU Raipur usually becomes available at a lower CLAT rank and has a lower fee, but its placements are in a different range. Students with a CLAT rank between 4,000 and 5,500 can consider GNLU along with WBNUJS.
