GNLU Admission Dates 2027

CLAT 2027 will be used for GNLU's five-year integrated LLB and one-year LLM admissions for the 2027-28 academic session. UG and LLM applicants receive seats through Consortium of NLUs counselling according to their CLAT ranks. The MBA selection route considers CAT, CMAT or MAT performance together with GNLU's own assessment stages.

GNLU Courses and Fees

Students at GNLU Gandhinagar can choose from five integrated undergraduate law streams, a one-year LLM, a two-year MBA, doctoral study and short postgraduate diplomas. Every integrated UG stream carries the same fee. For 2026-27, the annual amount includes tuition, hostel, mess and infrastructure expenses.

GNLU does not provide a management or NRI quota for its UG and LLM courses. Merit-based counselling conducted by the Consortium of NLUs is used to allot all seats. At INR 12.22 Lakhs, the five-year undergraduate fee falls within the lower fee bands among India's NIRF top-10 law universities. The annual payment of INR 2,72,000 combines tuition, hostel, mess and infrastructure charges instead of billing the hostel separately.

GNLU Admission Process

Admission routes differ by programme. CLAT counselling controls entry to the five-year undergraduate degrees and the LLM, while GNLU directly manages the selection stages for its MBA and PhD programmes.

5-Year UG Admission

For undergraduate law admission, students must qualify in CLAT UG and take part in counselling run by the Consortium of NLUs. GNLU neither conducts another entrance examination nor asks applicants to attend an interview.

• Step 1, check eligibility: The applicant must pass 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board with at least 45% aggregate marks. The requirement is 40% for SC/ST applicants. Students completing Class 12 in the admission year may apply provisionally.
• Step 2, take CLAT UG: A valid CLAT UG rank is compulsory. The objective test contains 120 questions and lasts 2 hours. Its areas are English, Legal Reasoning, Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques.
• Step 3, enter counselling: The programme has 193 seats. Their distribution is All India Unreserved 79, SC 23, ST 12, OBC-NCL 42, EWS 16, NRI 16 and Foreign National 5. Supernumerary seats are also available for sportspersons, Jammu and Kashmir residents, and candidates from North East India.
• Step 4, apply reservations: A 25% Gujarat domicile horizontal reservation operates across every vertical category.
• Step 5, account for other horizontal reservations: Female candidates receive 30% horizontal reservation, while the PWD share is 5%.

In Round 2 of Consortium counselling, the CLAT 2026 All India closing rank for GNLU's General category was 392. The respective closing ranks were 1,952 for OBC-NCL and 5,446 for SC. Students seeking admission in 2027-28 can expect competition within a similar range.

LLM Admission

The one-year LLM admits 64 students across four specialisations. Applicants qualify through CLAT PG and then follow the Consortium of NLUs counselling process used for undergraduate admissions. Final-year LLB students may submit provisional applications. Category-wise seat proportions are the same as those followed by the UG programme.

MBA Admission

The MBA in Financial Management and Business Laws is a two-year programme with 20 seats. GNLU calculates a combined selection score from the applicant's CAT, CMAT or MAT percentile, its legal aptitude test, and the Group Discussion and Personal Interview stages. Graduates from any discipline other than fine arts may apply. CAT 2026 will form the basis of the 2027 intake.

GNLU Placements

GNLU Gandhinagar reports placement results that are among the stronger outcomes within the NLU group. During the latest available undergraduate cycle, 175 of 181 eligible graduates secured placements, resulting in a 96.70% placement rate.

Five-year law graduates received a median salary of INR 18 LPA, and the highest offer reached INR 26 LPA. Recruiters include major law firms, multinational companies and financial institutions operating from Gujarat, Mumbai and Delhi, along with other legal and corporate employers.

Studying in Gandhinagar gives students access to Gujarat's corporate legal network, including conglomerates in Ahmedabad and the financial district at GIFT City. Graduates also identify GNLU's moot court environment and focus on internships as factors supporting its placement record.

GNLU Rankings

In the 2025 NIRF Law ranking, GNLU Gandhinagar secured rank 5 with a score of 76.23. The NIRF assessment covers teaching and learning, research, graduation outcomes and public perception. GNLU has stayed within the top-five group over several ranking cycles.

This position places GNLU in the group that also includes NLSIU Bangalore, NLU Delhi, NALSAR Hyderabad and NLU Jodhpur. These institutions are leading preferences for CLAT applicants seeking admission to the highest-ranked NLUs.

GNLU Campus and Infrastructure

GNLU's Gandhinagar campus occupies 50 acres in Gujarat's planned capital city and provides a fully residential learning environment. Hostel accommodation is included in the annual payment. For 2026-27, the INR 2,72,000 charge covers tuition, hostel, mess and infrastructure, while students pay separately for the electricity they use.

Academic and student facilities include seminar halls, moot court rooms, computer laboratories, sports grounds and a fully equipped gymnasium. The central library provides physical resources and digital legal databases. Its collection covers Indian and international law journals, case reporters and legal research databases used in law coursework.

A second GNLU campus operates in Silvassa for selected programmes and short academic activities. Gandhinagar remains the main location for undergraduate and LLM admissions conducted through CLAT.

GNLU vs NALSAR Hyderabad vs NLU Jodhpur

GNLU, NALSAR Hyderabad and NLU Jodhpur all belong to the NIRF Law top-five group and attract the same pool of students seeking a leading National Law University through CLAT. Applicants holding CLAT ranks between 300 and 500 commonly compare these three choices.

With 193 undergraduate seats, GNLU enrols more students than NALSAR and NLU Jodhpur, which have 120 seats each. NALSAR holds NIRF rank 3 and NLU Jodhpur rank 4, and both have tighter CLAT closing ranks. At GNLU, the 25% horizontal reservation for Gujarat domicile applies across categories and improves access for eligible state candidates. Each university follows a residential model, and none provides a management quota.
