Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Gandhinagar, is a private deemed-to-be university set up by the Government of Gujarat in 2007. The School of Energy Technology offers focused UG and PG programmes in areas such as Petroleum Engineering, Solar Energy, and Energy Systems Engineering. The School of Law began in 2025 and offers BA LL.B. for 5 years and LL.B. for 3 years through CLAT-based admission.

PDEU Admission Process

PDEU selects students through entrance exams that match each course group. The cutoff changes by school, branch, and quota.

B.Tech Admission

For B.Tech, applicants must pass 10+2 from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The minimum required aggregate is 45%, while SC/ST candidates need 40%.

  • JEE Main for 75% seats: PDEU prepares its All India merit list using JEE Main All India Rank. For popular branches like Computer Engineering and ICT, the General Category closing rank has usually been between 10,000 and 25,000.
  • GUJCET through ACPC for 25% seats: Gujarat state quota admission is handled through ACPC centralised counselling. In 2025, the General Category GUJCET cutoff at PDEU varied by branch and ranged from 692 to 11,199.
  • Management Quota: PDEU also keeps a limited number of seats for direct admission through its own process.

MBA Admission

For MBA admission, students need a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate. They must also have a valid CAT, XAT, GMAT, CMAT, or NMAT score.

  • PDEU first shortlists applicants through their entrance exam score.
  • Shortlisted students appear for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) at PDEU, Gandhinagar.
  • The final merit list is prepared from the combined score of entrance exam performance, GD, and PI.

M.Tech Admission

M.Tech applicants need a B.Tech or BE degree in a relevant field with at least 55% aggregate. Students admitted in Phase-I with a valid GATE score get a stipend of INR 12,400 per month. Phase-II students without GATE, admitted on merit, can receive INR 8,000 per month if seats are available.

Other Programmes

BA / BBA / B.Com (Hons.) applicants need 10+2 with 45% and a valid CUET UG score. These courses are offered by the School of Liberal Studies. BA LL.B. and LL.B. admission is based on CLAT scores. For Ph.D admission, students need a master’s degree, must clear the PDEU entrance test, and then appear for an interview. Applicants with valid GATE, NET, or JRF scores may not have to take the written entrance test.

PDEU manages placements through its Career Development Cell (CDC). In the 2025 placement season, students from the School of Technology, School of Energy Technology, and School of Management took part.
