CUJ Admission Process

CUJ uses the common admission system followed by central universities. UG admission is through CUET-UG, and PG admission is through CUET-PG. Both exams are conducted by NTA. For B.Tech, students are allotted seats through CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) counselling on the basis of JEE Main rank.

B.Tech and Integrated B.Tech + M.Tech

For B.Tech, students must pass 10+2 in the Science stream with PCM and score at least 75% marks. SC/ST/PwD candidates need 65% marks. A valid JEE Main score is needed, followed by CSAB registration. The 5-year Integrated B.Tech + M.Tech programme also follows the JEE Main and CSAB route and gives a dual degree in five years.

  • Take JEE Main in the January or April session
  • Use the JEE Main roll number to register for CSAB counselling
  • Enter CUJ and course preferences during counselling
  • Accept the allotted seat and complete document verification

UG Humanities, Sciences, and Education Programmes

Integrated BA+MA, B.Sc+M.Sc Honours and B.Sc Honours admission is based on CUET-UG scores. Students must choose CUJ as one of their preferred universities while filling the CUET form. For B.Ed, applicants need a graduation degree with 50% marks, and admission is through CUET-UG or the IGNOU B.Ed Central Entrance Test.

PG Programmes (MBA, M.Sc, M.Tech, LLM, MSW, MPA)

CUET-PG scores are used for PG courses. MBA applicants need graduation in any stream with at least 50% marks. M.Sc requires a relevant BSc degree with 50% marks. M.Tech needs B.Tech with 55% marks; GATE is preferred for stipend allocation but is not compulsory. LLM requires an LLB with at least 55% marks. For PhD, students need a PG degree with 55% marks and either UGC NET/CSIR NET qualification or a pass in the CUJ Research Entrance Test.

CUJ Placements

CUJ placements are mainly driven by the Engineering and MBA departments. NIRF 2025 data shows that 252 students out of 638 eligible students were placed. UG graduates received a median package of INR 3.99 LPA, while the highest package in the latest cycle was INR 11.5 LPA.

Note: CUJ is mainly a teaching and research-focused central university. Many students from Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences choose higher studies, government jobs and civil services instead of campus placements. The placement numbers mostly reflect Engineering, MBA and Mass Communication placements.

Recruiters visiting CUJ included Wipro, Tata Group companies, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Vodafone, Indian Oil Corporation, CEAT and JK Tyres. The MBA and Mass Communication departments reported placement rates of 70 to 80%. Management graduates received packages from INR 4 to 12 LPA. Engineering placements are improving, with CSE graduates receiving top offers up to INR 11.5 LPA.

CUJ is located at Brambe, about 25 km from central Ranchi in Jharkhand. The present operational campus covers 45 acres, and a larger permanent campus with more facilities is under development. Students can reach Brambe through the Ranchi ring road, and regular bus services connect it with the state capital.

The campus has separate hostels for boys and girls, each with an annual fee of INR 27,600. It also has a central library, computer labs, science and engineering laboratories, a sports ground and a student activity centre. CUJ’s focus on tribal culture and northeastern regional languages is supported through its Language Technology and Tribal Studies resource centres.

Research scholars and PhD students can use inter-library consortium facilities and research labs linked to CUJ’s main focus areas: Energy Engineering, Nanotechnology, Geoinformatics and Tribal Studies. The central government has committed capital grants for continuing campus expansion and infrastructure work.

CUJ vs Central University of South Bihar vs Vinoba Bhave University

Students from Jharkhand and nearby Bihar often compare CUJ with Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) and Vinoba Bhave University (VBU), Hazaribagh. All three serve this region, but their university type, funding model and academic focus are different.
