University of Lucknow (LU), established in 1921, offers undergraduate and postgraduate study through faculties such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Management, Education, and Fine Arts. Students applying for courses such as BA and MBA must follow the entrance route set for that programme. A one-time LURN registration costs INR 100, while programme application fees range from INR 500 to INR 2,000.

Admission to BA, B.Sc and B.Com is based on the university's Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET). PG admission is through Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET), while B.Tech uses JEE Main scores and UPTAC counselling. Law, MBA and Ph.D. courses have separate admission routes.

UG Admission 2026

Lucknow University admits students to its UG and UG professional courses mainly through UGET, its own entrance test. The test is used for BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BJMC, BVA, BBA, BCA and B.P.Ed. CUET UG is not used for general UG admission at LU. Before filling the form, students must create a Lucknow University Registration Number (LURN) on lkounivadm.samarth.edu.in.

UG Application Process

1. Create the LURN on lkounivadm.samarth.edu.in and pay the one-time registration fee of INR 100.
2. Complete the centralised UG form and upload scanned Aadhaar, photograph and signature files in JPEG format, with each file up to 50 KB.
3. Pay the course application fee of INR 1,200 for General/OBC or INR 600 for SC/ST/PwD.
4. Download the admit card from the admission portal.
5. Take the university entrance test at the allotted centre.
6. Join counselling and complete document verification when called.

LU follows Uttar Pradesh state reservation rules: SC 21%, OBC 27%, ST 2% and EWS 10%.

B.Tech Admission 2026

B.Tech admission is not part of UGET. Students need a valid JEE Main 2026 score and must take part in UPTAC, which means UP State Technical Admissions Counselling. The Faculty of Engineering has 450 B.Tech seats.

Eligibility: Students must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, score at least 55% in aggregate and hold a valid JEE Main 2026 score.

Law Admission 2026

LU offers three law routes. The 3-year LLB and 5-year BA LLB are filled through entrance tests conducted by the university. The 5-year BBA LLB accepts CLAT 2026 scores, and vacant seats after CLAT allotment are filled through UGET.

BA LLB eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board with at least 45% for General/OBC and 40% for SC/ST.

BA LLB exam pattern: The paper has 100 MCQs for 200 marks. Each question carries 2 marks. The test runs for 90 minutes and has no negative marking. Questions cover Legal General Awareness, General Awareness, Reasoning and Mental Ability, History, Geography, General Science and Polity. Current affairs from the previous six months are included.

LLB eligibility: Students need a BA, B.Sc, B.Com or equivalent bachelor's degree from a UGC-recognised university with at least 50% marks for General/OBC and 45% for SC/ST.

BBA LLB eligibility: Students must pass 10+2 or equivalent with minimum 45% for General, 42% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST. The minimum CLAT score is 60 out of 120 for General and 54 out of 120 for OBC/SC/ST/PwD.

PG Admission 2026

For most postgraduate courses, LU uses its Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET). The university offers more than 86 PG programmes in humanities, sciences, commerce, social sciences, fine arts, education, journalism and social work. If applications for a course are fewer than the seats available, the entrance test is waived and admission is given through direct merit. MCA admission is based on CUET PG 2026.

PGET is held offline. It has 100 questions for 200 marks, and students get 90 minutes to complete it. There is no negative marking. The paper is based on the undergraduate syllabus of the subject applied for.

PG Application Process

1. Register on lkounivadm.samarth.edu.in and generate the LURN.
2. Fill the PG admission form for the selected programme and upload scanned documents.
3. Pay the application fee: INR 1,500 for non-professional PG courses in General/OBC, INR 2,000 for professional PG courses in General/OBC and INR 750 to INR 1,000 for SC/ST/PwD.
4. For MCA, submit the CUET PG 2026 score and complete centralised choice filling.
5. Appear for PGET at the allotted exam centre where required.
6. Attend counselling and document verification as per the university schedule.

MBA Admission 2026

MBA admission at Lucknow University for 2026-27 is mainly based on CAT 2025. Seats left after CAT-based admission are filled through LUMET, short for Lucknow University Management Entrance Test. CUET PG scores are also accepted. The final score gives 70% weightage to the written test and 30% to the Personal Interview.

The MBA specialisations include General Management, Finance and Control, Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business, Pharmaceutical Management and Tourism and Travel Management. Across these specialisations, LU offers 540 seats.

Eligibility: A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university is required. The minimum marks are 50% for General/OBC and 45% for SC/ST.

LUMET 2026 Exam Pattern

LUMET is an offline test with 100 MCQs for 200 marks. The duration is 90 minutes, and there is no negative marking.

Ph.D. Admission 2026

Lucknow University Ph.D. admission is through the Research Entrance Test (RET) and a Personal Interview. The selection weightage is 70% for RET and 30% for the interview. Students who have qualified UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JRF, GATE or SLET do not have to take RET and can directly appear for the interview. Applications are submitted through lkounivadm.samarth.edu.in.

Ph.D. Eligibility

Ph.D. courses are offered across Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Management, Education and Fine Arts. Applicants must have a relevant Master's degree from a UGC-recognised university.

Certificate and Diploma Admission 2026

Lucknow University also includes Diploma in Pharmacy among the UG-level admission options. Students applying for this programme need 10+2 with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.

Scholarships

Students at Lucknow University can apply for support from Uttar Pradesh government schemes as well as university-level schemes. The state scholarship can cover tuition fees for SC/ST students and also supports students from families with annual income below INR 2 lakh. LU also offers two internal schemes and a merit-based tuition waiver.

Scholarship money is sent straight to the student's bank account after document verification. State government scholarship forms must be submitted separately through scholarship.up.gov.in.
