SSUHS Admission Dates 2026

Admission to MD and MS courses at SSUHS-affiliated colleges is based on NEET PG. All India Quota seats are handled through MCC PG counselling, while the state counselling process covers Assam quota seats.

Different entrance and counselling routes apply to courses offered through SSUHS and its affiliated institutions. SSUHS conducts an entrance examination for allied health programmes such as B.Sc Nursing, B.Pharm and BPT. Admission to its PhD programmes includes a written test followed by an interview.

SSUHS Courses, Fees and Affiliated Colleges

SSUHS has 47 affiliated health science institutions across Assam. Its network includes more than 15 colleges offering MBBS, along with dental, AYUSH, nursing, pharmacy and postgraduate medical institutions. Doctoral courses are offered directly by the university.

Prominent institutions under SSUHS include Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati; Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh; Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH); Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH); and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College (FAAMC). Each college prepares its own fee structure while following the standards set by the Assam Fee Regulatory Committee.

SSUHS Admission Process

The selection process depends on the programme. National entrance examinations and central or state counselling are used for medical, dental and AYUSH courses. SSUHS separately manages entry to specified allied health and doctoral programmes.

MBBS Admission at Affiliated Medical Colleges

A valid NEET UG score is compulsory for admission to government and private medical colleges affiliated with SSUHS. MCC manages the All India Quota, while the Directorate of Medical Education, Assam, conducts counselling for state quota seats.

• Step 1, meet the eligibility rules: Complete 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The minimum aggregate is 50%, or 45% for SC, ST and OBC applicants, and the student must have a valid NEET UG score.
• Step 2, choose the counselling route: MCC counselling fills 15% of seats in government colleges through the All India Quota.
• Step 3, apply for the state quota: Assam state NEET counselling covers 85% of government college seats and all seats in private medical colleges.

For General Category applicants, MBBS closing ranks at government institutions such as GMCH Guwahati commonly lie between 5,000 and 20,000 AIR. Private medical colleges in Assam accept students at much higher rank ranges through state quota counselling.

MD / MS Admission at Affiliated Medical Colleges

Students seeking an MD or MS seat must qualify through NEET PG. MCC PG counselling allocates All India Quota seats, and Assam state PG counselling handles state quota admission. SSUHS defines the eligibility requirements and maintains the academic calendar for its affiliated postgraduate courses.

• Qualify for NEET PG with a valid score.
• Register for MCC PG counselling for an All India Quota seat or Assam state PG counselling for a state quota seat.
• Complete seat allotment and admission formalities at the allotted SSUHS-affiliated medical college.

PhD Admission at SSUHS

SSUHS directly selects PhD students through its written entrance examination and an interview. Applicants need an MBBS, BDS, BAMS, M.Sc or an equivalent postgraduate qualification in the relevant health science field, with at least 55% marks.

• Confirm that the required postgraduate qualification and minimum marks have been obtained.
• Take the written PhD entrance examination conducted by SSUHS.
• Attend the university interview after qualifying in the written test.

SSUHS Career Outcomes

SSUHS has no central campus placement system. Students build their careers through the clinical training and qualifications received at affiliated colleges, followed by opportunities in government health services, postgraduate study and private hospitals.

Many MBBS graduates prepare for NEET PG and continue to an MD or MS specialisation. Assam regularly recruits staff for its Health Services, where graduates from GMCH and other major SSUHS-affiliated institutions hold positions. They also work in government hospitals elsewhere in Northeast India.

SSUHS Campus

The administrative headquarters of SSUHS is located in Guwahati, Assam. From this office, the university supervises affiliation, examinations and regulatory work for all 47 affiliated institutions across the state.

SSUHS mainly functions as an affiliating and regulatory body, so it does not maintain a large teaching campus or its own teaching hospital. Students receive classroom instruction and clinical experience at their respective colleges and attached hospitals. Gauhati Medical College Hospital in Guwahati, the largest hospital affiliated with SSUHS, has more than 1,200 beds and serves patients from Assam and other parts of Northeast India. Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh provides comparable tertiary healthcare facilities for Upper Assam.

SSUHS vs MUHS vs KUHS

SSUHS, MUHS and KUHS are state health sciences universities responsible for affiliated institutions in Assam, Maharashtra and Kerala, respectively. Their locations, scale and state admission systems differ, although all three use NEET for MBBS selection.

With more than 350 affiliated institutions, MUHS manages one of India's largest medical education networks. KUHS regulates medical, dental, nursing and allied health institutions throughout Kerala and has more than 200 affiliates. SSUHS has 47 affiliated institutions, is the youngest among these three universities and serves as the sole health sciences university for the entire Northeast India region. MBBS admission at each university depends on NEET, while state-level fee committees regulate fees.
