AFMC Pune MBBS Selection Criteria 2026

AFMC shortlists candidates from NEET UG merit for its Pune screening round. The usual shortlist size is 2,000 candidates, including 1,600 boys and 400 girls. Separate final merit lists are prepared for boys and girls.

  • The final composite score is calculated out of 250 marks.
  • NEET score out of 720 and ToELR score out of 80 are added and divided by 4 to make the Written Examination Score out of 200.
  • Interview carries 50 marks.
  • PAT is qualifying only and does not add marks to final merit.
Selection Component Details
NEET UG 2026 Score Used for primary shortlisting. NEET carries 720 marks in the composite formula.
ToELR Computer-Based Test 40 MCQs, 30 minutes, 80 marks, with +2 for a correct answer and -0.5 for a wrong answer
PAT Qualifying only. No marks are counted in final merit.
Personal Interview 50 marks. Conducted by a panel of senior Armed Forces medical officers.
Medical Examination Conducted as per Ministry of Defence standards. Candidates must clear it to move ahead in the merit process.
Final Score Out of 250 marks. Merit lists are separate for boys and girls.

Based on NEET UG 2025 data, boys needed above 600 marks and girls needed above 620 marks out of 720 to enter the AFMC screening shortlist. Final admission is based on the composite score, not NEET rank alone.

Every AFMC MBBS cadet signs a service bond before joining. As of 2026, the bond amount was INR 71 lakh, revised upward every academic year. The bond applies if a cadet withdraws after 7 days of joining or does not complete 7 years of AFMS service after graduation. Candidates declared medically unfit during training are liable to pay INR 28,166 per week in training cost from the NSL declaration date, not the full bond amount.

Candidates who do not clear ToELR, interview, or medical examination are not admitted even with a strong NEET score. AIIMS Delhi and JIPMER allot seats through NEET rank only.

  • Free residential accommodation is provided in the AFMC hostel for all medical cadets.
  • Subsidised mess facilities cover food costs through the MBBS duration.
  • Uniform, equipment, and training materials are supplied at government expense.
  • SC/ST cadets may apply through the National Scholarship Portal for central government income-and-merit-based schemes.
  • PG candidates from all priority categories receive college accommodation. Serving AFMS officer candidates continue to receive AFMS officer pay during PG training.
