Army College of Medical Sciences (ACMS) is a private medical college in Delhi Cantonment, New Delhi. Founded in 2008, it is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Admission is limited to the wards and widows of Indian Army personnel. All 100 MBBS seats fall under this restriction, with no civilian open-merit, management-quota or general-quota seats.

Hostels are provided for male and female students, with charges of up to INR 1,41,400 per year. Depending on whether a student uses the hostel throughout all five academic years, the combined academic and accommodation expense ranges from INR 28,24,130 to INR 35,31,130.

ACMS Admission Process

Admission to ACMS is restricted to dependent children and widows of serving, retired or deceased Indian Army personnel. A civilian applicant cannot secure a seat, irrespective of the NEET UG score.

MBBS Eligibility and Selection

An applicant must satisfy all of the following conditions:

  • Be an Indian national and the ward or widow of a serving, retired or deceased member of the Indian Army
  • Complete Class 12 (10+2) from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as core subjects
  • Secure at least 50% in the PCB aggregate under the General category or 40% under the SC/ST categories
  • Appear for NEET UG and earn a valid score for the relevant admission year
  • Be at least 17 years old at the time of admission

GGSIPU manages the centralised counselling for the Army ward MBBS seats. Applicants complete the process through these stages:

  • Apply for NEET UG and obtain a valid NEET rank
  • Complete registration for Army ward seats through the GGSIPU counselling portal
  • Provide an Army ward or widow certificate issued by the relevant Army Records Office or Army base
  • Join the GGSIPU merit-list and seat-allotment process
  • Report to ACMS for document checks and pay the required fee to confirm the allotted seat

For Army ward seats, the 2024 NEET UG closing rank was 25,967, corresponding to a score of 651. Seat allocation within the eligible pool also follows Priority I to Priority VIII, based on the nature of the parent’s Army service.

ACMS Placements and Career Outcomes

ACMS does not use a regular campus-placement system because its graduates enter the medical profession after completing the MBBS course and internship. Many graduates take NEET PG to pursue an MD or MS. Eligible students from GGSIPU-affiliated medical colleges can also access the 50% institutional quota for Delhi PG seats, including seats at Safdarjung Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

No mandatory military-service bond applies to an ACMS graduate. After the one-year internship, MBBS holders may enter a civilian medical career, unlike AFMC Pune graduates who have a compulsory commitment. Clinical instruction takes place at Base Hospital Delhi Cantonment, an 800-plus-bed tertiary care centre serving the defence community. This training covers medicine, surgery and trauma care.

ACMS Campus and Infrastructure

The college occupies a 26-acre green campus inside Delhi Cantonment, New Delhi. Its cantonment location provides a disciplined setting with fewer distractions than a typical urban campus. Palam and Dwarka Sector 21 are the closest access points on the Delhi Metro network.

Academic facilities include 4 air-conditioned lecture halls, 23 digital classrooms and 7 specialised seminar rooms. Students use departmental laboratories for anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology and microbiology. The anatomy department maintains a cadaver-to-student ratio of 1:25. Clinical teaching takes place at the attached Base Hospital Delhi Cantonment, an 800-plus-bed tertiary facility with medicine, surgery, obstetrics, paediatrics, orthopaedics, ENT and ophthalmology departments.

ACMS allows eligible Army wards to complete an MBBS in Delhi without a compulsory military-service term.
