Government Medical College, Jammu, popularly known as GMC Jammu, was established in 1973. The institute is approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and is affiliated with the University of Jammu. GMC Jammu Admission offers UG, PG, Diploma Medical, Nursing, and Paramedic courses.
GMC Jammu offers MBBS, B.Sc, and GNM courses at the UG level. The college offers MD/ MS programs in various specializations at the PG level. Learning to become a Doctor is one of the most noble professional degrees out there in our country. And as a result getting to learn how to cure someone made me take up this course. Curriculum is well planned by NMC, as it caters all aspects and not just regular theory classes but also SDL’s (self directed learning), practical classes, clinical postings, FA’s etc. All these help in holistic development of mbbs students to become better doctors in future. Exams are taken quarterly at college level and Final exams also known as profs taken at university level by Jammu university. Exams are not that tough if one studies consistently thought the year, however it is comparatively difficult as compared to other courses. Faculty to student ratio on average is 20:180. Faculties are highly qualified, as they are all one of the best doctors and teachers in our state. They are always there to resolve all our issues and make all our doubts clear with their teachings.
Compulsory internship for 12 months is offered to every student after completing mbbs. Students are placed in different departments like Medicine, Surgery, Obs and gynae, ENT, Optha, Orthopaedics, Psm on a rotational basis. They get experience and learning from all the branches. Indian after internship students either go for further studies that is doing post graduation, or apply for Job as medical officer or Junior resident in various hospitals. Some even prefer going out of state in private hospitals.
Read Full ReviewAll facilities are very well qualified. Classes are very well scheduled from 9 to 4 with a practical class of 1.5hrs and 30 mins lunch break . Terms exams are held twice in year, and university exams are held at the end of session .
Internships is given in the same college in different departments. Internship is of 12ths with compulsory rotation in all the departments. Avg pay In internship is around 12-13k , which is going to be increased to around 25-30k according to the new recommendation. After students student can pursue MD/MS . The residents are paid around 65-70k per month in residency .

There is the compulsory internship for one year as advised by the National Medical Council The current internship stipend is 11,300 and is shown to be hiked up to 25,000 in the following year. The next plan would be to appear for NEET PG and then take up MD or MS for further studies.

See in medical colleges you get internships within the city to the hospitals linked with the gmc, so you will definitely 100% get a internship here and afterwards you need to clear neet pg to get a md/ms seat
Read Full ReviewFaculty is, highly qualified and experienced in their field. Multiple teaching method like lecture, seminar, visual aids, demonstrations and skill practices are used. Term exam takes place every 3-4 month and are not so difficult. There is no fee hike and it is completely affordable. Scholarshipa are also available.
After the completion of mbbs, one may opt to work in periphere as a medical officer or do private practice or may go for a post gradutation course. The average per month earning differ from state to state and is approximately about 50-60K.
