Reasons to study at Faculty of Law, University of Calcutta

What I Liked

Our college is one of oldest and respected universities in India with a student centered environment.
Our college has close proximity to legal hubs and courts where students can gain real world experience.

Hostel Facilities:

The hostel is fully furnished with lush green campus. The food provided has homemade touch and prepared fresh everyday. The cuisine Includes Bengali as well North Indian food. The hostel fees is approximately Rs. 2000 per year for rent and Rs. 1500 per month for food. There are also other facilities such as badminton ground and various indoor games.

Campus Life:

Our college has wide range of extra curricular activities hosted. This includes moot court competitions, debates, seminars and quiz competitions. Apart from that various other cultural activities such as fests, festivities, sports and non academic ventures are supported by the faculty. The faculty guide us in every possible way to achieve our goals. The college also has a rich and modern library with all the facilities.

Know the Campus

What I Liked

The college has an exceptional alumni base contributing effectively to different spheres of society, be it the Supreme Court of India, different High Courts of various states, and also different corporate establishments for growth and prosperity. The campus radiates the stories of old times where eminent personalities were once part of the elite culture of the college.
The library of the college is really useful providing all types of books. It especially makes it easier for all students to access all necessary books considering the prices of law books sometimes can become really dear to making it out of hand for economically challenged, yet meritorious students to access them.

What I didn’t like

One of my main concerns that can be discussed about this college is its placement facility. Despite having the potential to produce talented individuals who can contribute meaningfully to legal institutions, the lack of effective support in this area is evident. While seniors are generally helpful to juniors, the legal field has become increasingly competitive. To address this, establishing a dedicated placement cell is really the need of the hour. All the students can connect with law firms, NGOs, and corporate legal departments, helping to bridge the gap between academics and careers.
There can be more seats available in the hostel, which is understandable for students who are in greater need of that. However, for students travelling from quite far away (not just the 60 km criteria that are provided there) to attend classes, reaching the campus on time in the morning can be really challenging.

Hostel Facilities:

The hostels have a separate building for both boys and girls. The hostel rooms are quite accommodative and provide enough private space for students. The fee of the hostel is quite nominal around 2000 rupees per year with 1500 rupees per month for food. Also, there are open playground, common room, events for the students.

Campus Life:

The social and campus life is full of different activities. To facilitate them , there are various committees like the debate committee, moot court committee, magazine committee, journal and seminar committee, ADR committee, cultural committee, etc. There are all different types of seminars and workshops organised especially for the faculty students to improve their real life skills. The seniors are amazing providing enough resources to adjust in the college life.
