Birla Institute of Technology, Extension Centre, Deoghar (BIT Deoghar) has operated in Deoghar, Jharkhand, since 2007. It was set up through a memorandum of understanding between the Government of Jharkhand and Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BIT Mesra). This AICTE-approved centre is a constituent unit of BIT Mesra, a deemed-to-be university recognised by the UGC under Section 3 of the UGC Act. Students receive degrees in the name of BIT Mesra, which has a NAAC ’A’ grade.

BIT Mesra, the parent institution, secured #48 in the NIRF Engineering Rankings 2024. BIT Deoghar follows its academic system and is known for engineering, computing, science and management programmes.

The residential centre occupies a 25-acre campus. Its facilities include engineering laboratories, a central library holding more than 26,000 volumes and hostels that can accommodate over 1,000 students.

  • B.Tech: Students can choose Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • B.Tech (Lateral Entry): Diploma holders may seek entry into any of the five engineering branches.
  • B.Sc + M.Sc (Integrated): This is a 5-year Mathematics and Computing programme.
  • B.Sc: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is offered as a 3-year programme.
  • BBA and BCA: These are 3-year programmes in Management and Computer Applications.

The four-year B.Tech fee is INR 18.37 Lakhs for CSE and AI/ML. The corresponding amount for EEE, ECE and Mechanical Engineering is INR 17.57 Lakhs. Each of the BBA and BCA programmes costs INR 6.98 Lakhs.

During the 2024 placement season, BIT Deoghar reported a highest package of INR 15.5 LPA, an average package of INR 5.91 LPA and an overall placement rate of 63 per cent. Deloitte, ZS Associates, Genpact, Wipro, Accenture and Cognizant were among the recruiters.

Admission Update: Applications for JEE Main 2027 Session 1 are open from 24 October 2026 to 22 November 2026. The examination will be conducted on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027.

BIT Deoghar Admission Process

The selection route depends on the programme. Regular B.Tech seats are allocated through JEE Main and JoSAA, while BBA, BCA and B.Sc applicants use BIT Mesra’s separate online process.

B.Tech Admission through JEE Main and JoSAA

BIT Deoghar does not conduct a separate entrance examination or accept a separate university application for regular B.Tech admission. Applicants must take JEE Main and participate in Joint Seat Allocation Authority counselling.

  • Step 1: Complete 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. A minimum aggregate of 75 per cent is required, while the requirement for SC and ST applicants is 65 per cent.
  • Step 2: Obtain a valid JEE Main score and register for JoSAA counselling.
  • Step 3: Add BIT Mesra Extension Centre, Deoghar and the preferred engineering branches to the choice list. JoSAA lists the Deoghar centre as a separate institute.
  • Step 4: After rank-based seat allocation, accept the seat, download the allotment letter and pay the seat-acceptance fee.
  • Step 5: Report to the institute and complete the required admission formalities.

BBA, BCA and B.Sc Admission

Applicants for BBA, BCA and B.Sc submit their forms through the BIT Mesra online admission portal instead of JoSAA.

  • BBA requires 10+2 with at least 50 per cent in any stream.
  • BCA requires 50 per cent in 10+2, with Mathematics as a compulsory subject.
  • B.Sc (AI/ML) requires 10+2 PCM with at least 60 per cent.
  • Selection is based on qualifying-examination marks, followed by verification of documents.

BIT Deoghar Campus and Infrastructure

BIT Deoghar is a residential centre spread across 25 acres in Deoghar, Jharkhand. Engineering and computing laboratories support practical work, while the central library provides more than 26,000 volumes. The hostels together have room for over 1,000 students, and most students stay on the campus during the academic term.

BIT Mesra has a larger main-campus environment, stronger links with corporate recruiters and a more competitive JEE Main cutoff. BIT Deoghar offers the BIT Mesra degree from a smaller centre.
