Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Patna began operations in 2006 as an off-campus centre of BIT Mesra, Ranchi. The institute was established through a Public-Private Partnership between BIT Mesra and the Government of Bihar. BIT Mesra is a Deemed University recognised by the University Grants Commission, and its name and seal appear on every degree awarded to BIT Patna students. The campus also has approval from AICTE and the Council of Architecture.

BIT Patna has no separate NIRF position at present. Its parent university, BIT Mesra, is ranked by NIRF in the Engineering and University categories.

The fully residential campus stands between Bihar Veterinary College and Patna Airport in Patna, Bihar. Students have access to three boys’ hostels, one girls’ hostel, a library with electronic resources, sports courts, a gymnasium and a dispensary that operates throughout the day and night.

Programmes are available at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in engineering, science and management:

  • The 4-year B.Tech is offered in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
  • The 5-year integrated B.Sc + M.Sc programme covers Mathematics and Computing.
  • BBA and BCA are 3-year undergraduate programmes.
  • The institute offers a 2-year MBA in Management.

For the full 4-year period, B.Tech CSE and AI/ML cost INR 18.57 lakhs, while Civil, ECE, EEE and Mechanical Engineering cost INR 17.77 lakhs. The total MBA fee is INR 8.23 lakhs for 2 years. Each 3-year BBA and BCA programme has a total fee of INR 7.10 lakhs.

Admission Update: The 2027-28 cycle is scheduled to begin with JEE Main in January 2027. BIT Mesra counselling for this cycle is expected in July 2027.

BIT Patna Admission Dates 2027

The 2027-28 BIT Patna admission cycle will use JEE Main for entry to B.Tech programmes. Registration for the January 2027 session is expected through the National Testing Agency portal from October 2026 onwards. BIT Mesra will conduct its own counselling for eligible applicants.

Among the engineering options, CSE and AI/ML have a modest fee premium. The complete fee for the 5-year integrated Mathematics and Computing programme is INR 9.57 lakhs, making it the lowest-priced science stream.

BIT Patna Admission Process

Most applications are handled centrally by BIT Mesra through its admission portal at bitmesra.ac.in. BIT Patna does not allot seats through JoSAA counselling. The selection steps depend on the programme.

B.Tech and B.Sc + M.Sc Integrated

JEE Main scores are used to select students for engineering and the integrated science programme through BIT Mesra’s separate counselling system.

  • First, applicants must pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. They need at least 60% in aggregate, or 55% if they belong to the SC/ST categories, along with a valid JEE Main score for the current cycle.
  • Next, they submit the online form at bitmesra.ac.in and provide their documents for verification.
  • BIT Mesra then prepares the merit order and allots seats across the main campus and its extension centres, including Patna.
  • For B.Tech CSE at BIT Patna, the usual JEE Main cutoff has fallen within the 85 to 95 percentile band, depending on the year and category.

BBA and BCA

Class 12 performance determines selection for the BBA and BCA programmes.

  • Applicants must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board.
  • They apply directly to BIT Patna, which prepares the merit list from qualifying examination marks.

MBA

Applicants to the MBA must hold a valid score from a national management entrance examination.

  • A graduation score of at least 50% and a valid CAT, MAT or XAT result are required.

BIT Patna Campus and Infrastructure

BIT Patna has a fully residential campus near Patna Airport in Bihar, positioned between Bihar Veterinary College and the airport boundary. Academic buildings and student residences share the same premises, placing it among the few fully residential private engineering campuses in the state.
