NIT Patna Admission Dates 2027

NIT Patna takes B.Tech students through JoSAA centralised counselling, where seats are allotted on the basis of JEE Main rank. Admission for the 2026-30 batch is over. For the 2027-31 batch, the process starts with JEE Main 2027, and JoSAA counselling begins in June 2027. M.Tech admission depends on GATE 2027.

M.Tech, MCA, M.Arch, and Master of Planning admission follows a different schedule at institute level. M.Tech seats use GATE 2027 and CCMT, which means Centralised Counselling for M.Tech. The accepted exams and counselling routes are given below.

NIT Patna Courses and Fees

NIT Patna offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses through its 11 departments in engineering, science, architecture, and planning. The fees below are shown for the full programme. SC/ST students and students whose family income is below INR 4.5 Lakhs per year can get tuition fee waivers.

The integrated B.Tech + M.Tech course, including options like CSE plus Data Science and EE plus Power System, lets students complete a dual degree in 5 years. Its total fee is INR 10,98,200.

NIT Patna Admission Process

Admission to B.Tech and B.Arch is done through JoSAA centralised counselling. For M.Tech and MCA, NIT Patna uses GATE scores through CCMT or its own admission process.

B.Tech Admission Process

For B.Tech, students must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The minimum aggregate is 75%, while SC/ST/PwD students need 65%. A valid JEE Main score is required.

In JoSAA 2025 Round 5, the General/Other State closing ranks for NIT Patna were 17,282 for CSE, 18,895 for AI and Data Science, and 28,690 for Mechatronics. Bihar students come under the Home State quota and usually get admission at better ranks with lower JEE Main scores.

B.Arch Admission

B.Arch admission is through JoSAA counselling. Students need a valid JEE Main Paper 2 score and a qualifying NATA score. They must have studied Mathematics in 10+2 and secured at least 50% aggregate.

M.Tech and MCA Admission

For M.Tech and MCA admission, students need a B.Tech or BE degree in the relevant field with 55% aggregate and a valid GATE score. GATE-qualified M.Tech students take admission through CCMT. M.Tech students admitted with a GATE score can receive INR 12,400 per month as a scholarship under MHRD guidelines. Ph.D scholars receive INR 31,000 per month at JRF level.

NIT Patna Placements

The Training and Placement Cell manages placements at NIT Patna. In the 2024-25 placement season for the 2025 graduating batch, more than 100 companies made 524 total offers.

For UG students in 2024-25, the highest package was INR 41.37 LPA and the average package was INR 9.9 LPA. PG placements recorded a highest package of INR 12.5 LPA and an average package of INR 7.8 LPA.

Amazon, Oracle, Adobe, Accenture, Jio, Cognizant, Alstom, IBM, Cisco, Texas Instruments, and JP Morgan are among the recruiters. CSE and AI-DS usually receive the strongest number and value of offers. Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical branches also get good participation from manufacturing, infrastructure, and energy companies.

NIT Patna Rankings

NIT Patna appears in NIRF for both Engineering and Overall categories. In NIRF 2025, the institute is ranked 53 in Engineering, better than its 55 rank in 2024.

Among India’s 31 NITs, NIT Patna falls in the middle tier. In NIRF 2025, it is the highest-ranked engineering college in Bihar and is placed above other state government and private engineering colleges in the state.

NIT Patna Scholarships

NIT Patna students can apply for the centrally funded Merit-cum-Means scholarship and other government scholarship schemes. M.Tech students with a valid GATE score get a monthly stipend from the Ministry of Education.

Students below the poverty line whose family income is under INR 1 Lakh per year may also get full fee waivers and extra support through central government welfare schemes.

NIT Patna Campus and Infrastructure

NIT Patna has a 40-acre campus at Ashok Rajpath, Mahendru, Patna, near Patna University and the state Secretariat. The campus has a central library, computer labs, departmental labs, a sports complex, and a student health centre.

Hostels are available separately for men and women students. Ph.D and PG scholars get priority for hostel accommodation. Students also have access to a central mess, a food court, and an ATM. The TnP Cell building and placement hub help with industry connect, pre-placement talks, and company visits during the placement season.

The institute also has an Incubation Centre for student startups and an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Cell. Its central library gives digital access to research databases for graduate and doctoral work across 11 departments.

NIT Patna vs NIT Jamshedpur vs NIT Durgapur

Students preparing for JEE often compare NIT Patna with NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Durgapur because all three fall in the NIRF #45-65 engineering college range. These three NITs are in eastern India and have similar programme structures, with JoSAA closing ranks that often overlap.

NIT Jamshedpur has a higher NIRF position than NIT Patna, with ranks of 41 and 53 respectively. It is known for metallurgy and manufacturing because of its closeness to the Tata Steel ecosystem. NIT Durgapur is placed in a similar NIRF tier to NIT Patna and is strong in electronics. NIT Patna stands out for its B.Arch course and integrated B.Tech+M.Tech options, which the other two institutes do not offer.
