BIT Mesra has revised the admission schedule for PhD 2024. The last date to apply online has been extended from November 24, 2024, to November 28, 2024. Candidates can apply online through the BIT Mesra admission portal. The application fee is INR 1500 for Unreserved / OBC candidates and INR 1000 for SC / ST candidates.

BIT Mesra PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must have a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant branch with a minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA in the qualifying examination.
• Candidates with a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant branch with a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination are eligible.
• Sponsored candidates must have a minimum of two years of professional work experience, in addition to the basic eligibility criteria. Sponsored candidates should have valid sponsorship for at least three years.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade is provided to SC / ST candidates.

BIT Mesra PhD Selection Process

• NET- JRF or other National level test qualified candidates are not required to appear for the University’s Entrance test, the selection will be done based on personal interviews only.
• For candidates without JRF, 70% of weightage will be given for the test score and 30% weightage for the interview for admission to PhD.
• The marks obtained in the NET by the candidates will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D. Programs.
• The University will hold entrance examinations for those Ph.D. programs where NET examinations in the concerned subjects are not conducted by UGC.
• Candidates without a valid NET score will be required to take the university’s entrance test.
• Candidates interested in availing the Institute Research Scholarship (IRS) need to take the Institute entrance test, irrespective of the NET Score.

Note: The Aptitude & Subject Specific test is of 40 marks and Interview is of 100 marks for Sponsored category.

Candidates must bring both original and photocopies of the below-listed documents to the interview:

• Pass certificate and Marksheet of Class 10th and 12th
• Certificate and Marksheets of Graduation and Post-graduation
• College Leaving Certificate
• Migration Certificate
• UGC-CSIR / DBT or other similar all-India fellowships Admit card and Score card (if applicable)
• Caste certificate / special category certificate (if applicable)
• Sponsorship letter, NOC, and Experience Certificate (if applicable) for Sponsored / Part-Time candidates.
• Candidates with correspondence or distance-learning programs must have

  • Proof of the program recognized by the DEC-UGC-AICTE or MHRD on the letterhead of the College / University, with their application.

BIT Mesra PhD Entrance Exam Details

• The Online MCQ entrance test will be conducted in proctored mode.
• The test consist of two sections: Common Aptitude Section (45 minutes) having 30 question (1 marks each) and Subject Specific Section (1 hour 15 minutes) having 35 questions (2 marks each).
• There will no negative marking.

• IRS with a fellowship amount of INR 15,000 per month for the first two years and INR 20,000 per month for the next two years are available depending on the performance.
• Award of IRS is done on the basis of academic records, and performance in the Institute PhD Entrance Test and Interview.
• The minimum marks required for the IRS may vary across the departments.
