Tamil Nadu Open University has extended the last date for the submission of the online application for PhD for the January 2025 session. Admission application extended up to Dec 31, 2024, by 5.00 PM. TNOU has also postponed the PhD Entrance Exam. New dates are to be announced soon.

Eligibility Criteria For PhD Program

To be eligible for PhD admission, candidates must meet the following criteria:-

  • Possess a post-graduate degree with a total duration of study of 17 years, through any of the following pathways: SSLC + HSC + UG + PG, 11-years SSLC + PUC + UG + PG, 10-years SSLC + 3 years Diploma + 2 years UG degree + 2 years PG, or 10 years SSLC + HSC + 4 years UG degree and 1 year PG degree.
  • Hold a Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree by the statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate.
  • Have an equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale, or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.

TNOU Research Fellowship (TNOURF)

  • Eligible full-time PhD scholars can receive a fellowship for 1 year upon publishing at least 1 international research article in a peer-reviewed UGC-CARE, Scopus, or WoS journal.
  • Scholars can receive an additional year of fellowship for publishing another research article in a peer-reviewed journal, with a maximum of 2 years of fellowship for publishing two papers simultaneously.
