Which campuses and departments are included?

RGIPT Jais offers research in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Geoengineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematical Sciences and Energy and Human Sciences. The institute also lists PhD options in engineering and management at Bengaluru and science and engineering areas at Sivasagar.

The notice covers engineering, science, humanities, social sciences and management disciplines. The exact qualifying degree depends on the department. For example, Mathematical Sciences accepts master's degrees in mathematics, statistics, mathematics and computing and related areas, while Management Studies accepts relevant master's, bachelor's and professional qualifications.

What are the main eligibility rules?

The minimum marks depend on the programme and degree. The notice lists 60% or a 6.0 CPI for many master's routes, 75% or a 7.5 CPI for several four-year bachelor's routes, and 65% or a 6.5 CPI for some science routes. SC and ST candidates get a 5% or 0.5 CPI relaxation in the qualifying degree.

Applicants with at least two years of industry experience may receive up to a 5% marks or 0.5 CPI relaxation if the department approves it. Students whose final results are still awaited can also be considered. If selected, they must submit proof of the qualifying degree and required marks within eight weeks of registration.

A degree that does not exactly match the listed subject may still be considered by the department committee and the Chairman, Senate. This is not automatic, so applicants should explain the subject match in the form.

Which registration route should a student choose?

The notice names four registration routes: full-time regular, full-time external, full-time sponsored and part-time.

RouteWho it suitsImportant condition
Full-time regularFresh graduates seeking full-time researchInstitute Assistantship may be available; GATE is generally required, with listed exemptions

Written test, interview and GATE rule

Admission is based on a written test and an interview for candidates shortlisted by the department. External, sponsored and part-time applicants, candidates with national-level scholarships, and outstanding candidates from CFI or CFTI institutes with a CPI of 8.00 or above are exempt from the written test.

RGIPT says GATE is not mandatory for eligible candidates in some engineering routes. Regular-category students with a GATE score, or students from the listed recognised institutes, may receive Institute Assistantship support. Check the department table and brochure before assuming an exemption applies to you.

Assistantship and application fee

RGIPT has listed 72 Institute Assistantship seats for this intake. A full-time regular JRF is shown at ₹37,000 per month. Some RGIPT-sponsored project students receive ₹18,500 plus a separate CIF teaching assistantship amount, subject to selection. Industry fellowships and national-level JRF or SRF awards have separate conditions.

The PhD application fee is non-refundable. SC, ST, PwD and female candidates pay Rs 708, while General, OBC and EWS candidates pay Rs 1,416. Keep the payment receipt and the final submitted form for your records.
