Wilson College: A Comprehensive Review
Likes
- I like gothic architecture which is why I like my college's entire look. I also like the fact that the college is a home to many cats and all students take care of them.
- The canteen is very affordable and has good food.
Dislikes
- I absolutely dislike the people and the crowd. I did not have a good experience with many of them.
- I also dislike the faculty. Most of them are not qualified to teach students and make the subject boring.
Remarks :
The admission was based on our marks in 12th board exam. There was no particular entrance test or interview round. I did not get a seat in psychology in St. Xavier's and hence I had to opt for Wilson. It wasn't my first choice and I didn't like my experience at Wilson for many many reasons. The professors aren't qualified, the environment isn't that great and the students aren't very welcoming.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I love psychology and I want to pursue it further and hence I opted for this course. My professor in the first and second year wasn't great. She wasn't qualified to teach the subject. She has an MA in philosophy and not psychology. So she would just come in and read through her notes without proper explanation. In my third year, I had professors with less experience but they were good teachers. Some of them taught well, especially Jeffrin ma'am who taught us cognitive psychology. The exams were held once every semester. So, two exams every year. The exams were easy and not as difficult if one had studied the subject thoroughly.
Placement Experience :
There were no placement opportunities for students of psychology. There were some placement drives for other streams like BMM. I've taken a gap year after my graduation and I'm currently doing an internship. After that, I'd like to continue my masters in the city.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
1st year (BA): Rs. 4000 [aided] 2nd year (BA): Rs: 6000 [aided] 3rd year (BA Full Psychology Major): Rs 25000 [unaided] The above fees are inclusive of all tuition, developmental, caution, lab, convocation, etc, fees. It only excludes admission fees (100rs) which is paid separately at the time of the admission process every year. All courses in BA (economics, political science, history, english, etc.) except psychology are aided and hence fees range from 6000-8000 in the third year. There are a few scholarships available based on merit but I'm not aware of the amount.
Campus Life :
Ole is the annual fest which is held in December. It's a great fest but unfortunately revolves around a lot of politics. All the main people of the fest (coordinators, department heads, etc.) are selected on the basis of how well they are known among their peers and not actual talent and capability. This is true for all other fests as well (eg. HOPE). People aren't welcoming of outsiders and the process of selection isn't fair either. Sports like football and boxing are given a lot of priority and students Excel in these sports. Libraries aren't what they are supposed to be in the college. There's a whole process wherein you have to fill a form about the book you want and its details and then someone gets it for you the next day. It's ridiculous. There's no point of it. It's very sad that students can't go out and pick their own books.

Placement Offers were Good on Records till now Collage has its own Placement Department. The Placement Department is operated by professionals. It aims at providing placement to students in reputed companies with handsome packages around 80% placement was done in our batch. All the students got chance to prove themselves in campus placements. Companies like Amazon, TCS, IBM, Make my trip, Amazon, flipkart, Infosys, HDFC, ICICI etc. visit the campus offers an average package ranges 3 - 4.5 LPA going on to Highest was 28 - 45 LPA Companies conduct interview sessions, GD, test for selection of students.

Placement was Good as there is a placement cell in the college that looks on managing placement for students by inviting Companies from different sectors Companies like Amazon Deloitte, Accenture, Reliance, HCL, Hyundai, HDFC bank, YES Bank, Axis bank etc. These companies make a number of offers to students offers an average package ranges 3 LPA and highest was 28 - 32 LPA. Companies conduct interview sessions, practical test, GD for selection of students and students needs to qualify all rounds to get selected also Internship opportunities was provided by college to give students practical experience and to give knowledge. Course Curriculum Overview :
i chose computer engineering because i was interested in the technical field and wanted to build my career in engineering. the faculty were qualified and helpful, and their teaching was a mix of thoery ,ppts and practical. term exams were conducted on time and the difficulty was moderate

Placement Experience :
Placement opportunities are not so widely discussed by our faculty. My plan after the program is to appear for ugc net exam and to become an assistant professor. The minimum salary for assistance professor post is approx 35000.

The placements & job opportunities in the campus placements is good in our college like honestly it is good and also it is reason for students to take admission because there are many company coming to college. The average package is around i will say is 4.5lpa of all branches and here ENTC and MECHANICAL branch have more than 96% placement rate The highest package is of 22lpa which was from CS. The ground reality the percentage of students placed from this college is around 70% like the core branches students have higher placement rates and technincal branches placement rate is of around 70%-80% the core branches students also gets placed in tech. The main recruiters are TCS,ESDS,WIPRO,TECH MAHINDRA,INFOSYS,L&T and more. NVIDIA was also there but last year they banned the college because some students cheated in online interview.
An industry focused learning experience

I haven't reached my placement stage yet but from what I have seen the college doesn't wait until the final year to start preparing students. We have coding sessions, skills building workshops and career guidance from the beginning. Seniors also share their experiences which gives us a better idea of what to expect. I feel the college is helping us build the right foundation for internships and placements. At the same time, I think getting a good job also depends on how much effort we put into improving our own skills. So far I feel I am on the right track
Reality of niat
Placement Experience :
no placement data is present now but many of students are working on their own projects and few are cracked the internships and now currently serving their period on the companies and it's really great opportunities.

The number of companies coming for campus placements go down with each passing year. The companies that do come (TresVista mostly) are quite poor in terms of work ethic and payout methods. This year, around 40-45 students from the graduating batch got campus placement out of the 110-120 that applied.

Psychology as a field is highly recognized and growing sector after the lockdown,people are more focused on mental health,thus bhavans was the best option as they have Psychology department set for almost 20years which makes them more experienced. The teaching method of Dr.kranti Gawali the hod is excellent.
